Job Description Job Title: 3rd Shift Production Worker / Machine Operator Assistant Job Description This 3rd shift Production Worker / Machine Operator Assistant role supports the safe and efficient operation of production machinery in a paper and cardboard manufacturing environment. You will load and unload materials, monitor equipment, inspect products for quality, and maintain a clean and organized work area while following strict safety and quality procedures. The position requires consistent lifting of 30–50 pounds throughout the shift and the ability to work either Monday–Thursday 8:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m. or Sunday–Thursday 10:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m., with overtime as needed. Responsibilities • Assist in the operation of production machinery by setting up, loading, and unloading paper and cardboard materials according to production requirements., • Monitor machines during operation to ensure they run smoothly, identify basic mechanical issues, and promptly report any irregularities or malfunctions., • Inspect materials and finished products for quality, checking for defects, proper alignment, and adherence to specifications., • Perform general labor tasks such as assembly, packing, and packaging of products to meet production schedules., • Operate or assist with gluing machines, folding machines, and folder-gluer equipment as directed by production leadership., • Use hand tools and power tools safely to support mechanical assembly and production activities., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area by removing debris, sweeping, and following housekeeping standards., • Follow all written and verbal instructions, standard operating procedures, and safety guidelines consistently., • Lift and move materials weighing 30–50 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift, including bending and twisting as required by the tasks., • Work independently or as part of a team to meet production goals, quality standards, and deadlines., • Adhere to all safety rules, including the proper use of personal protective equipment and compliance with restrictions on jewelry, food, drinks, gum, and headphones on the production floor., • Ability to consistently lift 30–50 pounds throughout the shift., • Comfort with frequent bending and twisting during material handling and production tasks., • Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with production machinery and equipment., • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and reliably., • Experience in general production, machine operation, or machine assisting in a manufacturing environment., • Experience with general labor tasks such as assembly, packing, and inspection., • Ability to work effectively on 3rd shift hours (Monday–Thursday 8:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m. or Sunday–Thursday 10:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m.)., • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within a team., • Experience operating or assisting with gluing machines, folding machines, or folder-gluer equipment., • Experience in packaging or paper/cardboard manufacturing environments., • Experience with machine operation, machine operating, or machine operator assistant roles., • Familiarity with mechanical assembly processes., • Experience using power tools and hand tools in a production or industrial setting. Work Environment The work environment is a paper and cardboard production facility with a darker manufacturing floor. You will work on 3rd shift, either Monday–Thursday from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. or Sunday–Thursday from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., with overtime as needed, typically by starting earlier and occasionally working on Saturdays. The facility uses production machinery such as gluing machines, folding machines, and folder-gluer equipment, along with hand tools and power tools for mechanical and general production tasks. Personal protective equipment is required and provided, including eye protection, hearing protection, closed-toed shoes, and a high-visibility vest. The dress code prohibits jewelry on the production floor, and no food, drinks, or gum are allowed in the production area. Headphones are not permitted, but an appropriate speaker may be used on a line as allowed by site rules. The environment is fast-paced, safety-focused, and physically demanding, with frequent lifting, bending, and twisting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
