Job Description Job Summary Cornerstone Pediatrics is seeking an experienced, dependable, and highly organized Pediatric Clinical Assistant — CMA, LPN, or RN — to join our independent, physician-led pediatric practice in Chesapeake, Virginia. This is a full-time, hands-on clinical role for someone who genuinely enjoys caring for children and families. The right person will be clinically skilled, warm, mature, organized, and interested in helping deliver the thoughtful, personalized care Cornerstone Pediatrics is known for. In our practice, this role is much more than checking boxes. The right person becomes an important clinical extension of the physician — helping families feel cared for, keeping visits organized, following through on details, and supporting the high-quality, relationship-centered pediatric care that makes Cornerstone different. This position has the opportunity to grow into a Clinical Lead, Practice Coordinator, or Practice Manager role over time. We are open to an experienced LPN or RN, but a highly capable CMA/MA with strong pediatric or private-practice experience could also be an excellent fit. Responsibilities Your day may include: • Rooming pediatric patients and helping children and families feel comfortable, • Obtaining vitals, growth measurements, histories, medication updates, and reason for visit, • Performing routine pediatric screenings, including hearing, vision, ocular photoscreening, developmental and behavioral screening support, • Performing point-of-care testing, including strep, flu, COVID, RSV, urinalysis, hemoglobin, lead, lipid screening, and other routine office labs, • Preparing and administering immunizations according to provider orders and office protocols, • Preparing specimens and lab paperwork accurately, • Supporting pediatric phone triage and advice using established protocols, office guidelines, and physician direction, • Communicating with families about routine instructions, follow-up plans, referrals, results, forms, and next steps, • Assisting with referrals, prior authorizations, school forms, medication forms, and care coordination, • Updating the Athenahealth electronic health record accurately and efficiently, • Maintaining a clean, stocked, and organized clinical environment to support infection control practices, patient safety, and efficient pediatric care., • Supporting phones, scheduling, forms, and front-office flow when needed, • Helping improve clinical flow, patient experience, team communication, and office systems We’d Love to Meet Someone Who • Is a Certified Medical Assistant, LPN, or RN, • Has at least 2 years of hands-on clinical experience in a physician office, outpatient clinic, urgent care, pediatric practice, • Has pediatric experience or a genuine love for working with children and families, • Is confident with vitals, vaccines, screenings, testing, documentation, and clinical workflows, • Communicates warmly and professionally with children, parents, and coworkers, • Is dependable, organized, detail-oriented, and able to follow through, • Sees what needs to be done and takes initiative, • Stays calm, kind, and professional on busy days, • Enjoys being part of a collaborative team where everyone helps where needed, • Has interest in growing into a larger clinical leadership or practice coordination role Preferred Experience • Pediatric office or primary care experience, • Vaccine administration experience, • Pediatric nurse phone triage experience, • AthenaHealth or similar EHR experience, • Prior authorizations, referrals, forms, or care coordination experience, • Staff training, clinical lead, or workflow improvement experience, • Vaccine workflow, vaccine inventory, or clinical supply management experience, • Interest or training in integrative medicine, lifestyle medicine, nutrition, mindfulness, holistic health, neurodiversity-affirming care, behavioral health, child development, ADHD, anxiety, mood concerns, or whole-child wellness Growth Opportunity This is not just a task-based job. For the right person, this role can grow into a Clinical Lead, Practice Coordinator, or Practice Manager role. Prior management experience is helpful but not required. What matters most is maturity, reliability, initiative, excellent communication, follow-through, and a desire to help the practice grow in a healthy and organized way.
