Job Description Job Title: Assistant Project Manager – Industrial Construction Job Description The Assistant Project Manager supports the successful delivery of industrial construction projects from initiation through closeout. In this role, you partner closely with an experienced Project Manager to assist with planning, scheduling, coordination, budgeting, and safety execution. You provide day-to-day support for on-site activities, help track progress and performance, and contribute to risk identification and issue resolution. This position offers hands-on exposure to complex industrial and mechanical construction work, along with strong mentorship and ongoing training to develop your project management career. Responsibilities • Support the delivery of industrial construction projects across all phases, from pre-construction through completion and closeout., • Partner closely with the Project Manager to assist with project planning, scheduling, coordination, budgeting, and safety execution., • Provide day-to-day support for on-site activities, including tracking work progress and participating in regular project reviews and meetings., • Assist in identifying project risks, resolving issues, and proactively mitigating potential schedule delays or cost impacts., • Help ensure that all safety, quality, and compliance standards are consistently met on site., • Assist with cost control and schedule management, including tracking projections, forecasts, and performance against plan., • Review project projections, performance metrics, and reporting to support informed decision-making by project leadership., • Coordinate with field teams and multiple trades to support efficient site operations and field execution., • Support scheduling activities, including updating schedules and helping to maintain accurate project timelines., • Perform accurate data entry related to project documentation, cost tracking, schedules, and reports., • Assist with the review and understanding of blueprints, schematics, and construction documents to support planning and execution., • Contribute to safety practices on site by applying safety knowledge and supporting adherence to safety protocols., • Participate in ongoing training and development to build expertise in project management, construction means and methods, and industrial operations., • Experience in construction, industrial, or mechanical environments; open to a range of experience levels from entry level up to approximately 10 years, with 3–6 years in the construction or mechanical space especially valued., • Foundational knowledge of construction management principles and project coordination., • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel, for documentation, reporting, and data tracking., • Field coordination and on-site experience supporting construction or industrial projects., • Experience with scheduling activities in a construction or industrial setting., • Strong data entry skills with attention to accuracy and detail for project documentation and reporting., • Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, and construction documents., • Awareness of construction safety practices and the ability to apply safety knowledge on site., • Ability to support and collaborate in industrial construction, mechanical construction, and commercial construction environments., • Capability to assist with project management, project coordination, and scheduling coordination tasks., • Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced field environment., • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related field is preferred but not required; relevant fields include construction engineering, safety, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or industrial process/management., • Technical or associate degree programs in construction, industrial, or mechanical disciplines are considered an asset., • Proficiency in planning and scheduling means, methods, and software such as Primavera, MS Project, P6, or Power BI is a plus., • Experience or exposure to industrial construction, mechanical construction, steel erection, and commercial construction is beneficial., • Familiarity with estimation processes in a construction or industrial context is an advantage., • Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality in a field or project environment., • Ability to collaborate effectively within a tight-knit, long-tenured team environment. This role is 100% on site in an industrial construction environment. Typical schedules involve five 10-hour days per week, with the potential for a sixth day depending on project needs. Management schedules generally follow a 40-hour workweek, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The office is based in Crown Point, IN, with active project sites in Elwood, IL and DeKalb, IL. The Elwood site involves disassembling a peaker plant, loading equipment onto trucks, and shipping it to another state. The DeKalb site focuses on an automated racking and conveyor project for a large food manufacturer. Each site typically has 35–60 people on site at any given time, representing multiple trades, with the majority of personnel coming from the same company. The environment is highly collaborative and tight knit, with many team members having worked together for over 20 years. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Frankfort, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $31.75 - $40.87/hr.
