Job Description Primary Function: Under the supervision of the Workstation Support Supervisor, the Workstation Support Technician is responsible for installation and maintenance of hardware and software for standalone and networked computer systems, overhead projectors, TVs, and associated peripheral equipment. This role provides user support by responding to trouble calls, recommending solutions and/or forwarding problems to the appropriate area. This role requires direct contact with faculty, staff and students at Bellevue University. Essential Functions: • Provides hardware and software support to users of personal computer/Mac systems and associated peripheral equipment., • Responds to trouble calls., • Reviews and diagnoses hardware and software malfunctions and identifies possible solutions to problems., • Recommends and/or implements hardware and software solutions., • Forwards problems to appropriate area or individual to resolve., • Maintains records of calls and solutions for users in University established system(s)., • Interacts with numerous computer platforms in a multi-layered client server environment., • Ensures desktop computers interconnect seamlessly with diverse systems including associated file servers, email servers, computer conferencing systems, applications servers, and administrative systems., • Communicates with vendor support contacts to resolve technical problems with desktop computing equipment and software., • Assists with the maintenance of Bellevue University’s network environment., • Performs routine systems administration tasks such as hardware setup and upgrades, configuration, and preventive maintenance on desktop and simple server setups., • Reviews specifications of new hardware and software products and their compatibility within the existing operating environment., • Maintains overhead projector equipment in the classrooms and installs/moves network cable as needed on campus., • Installs and relocates network and coax cable in support of Network infrastructure changes., • Updates operating systems and application software with proper security patches and services packs., • Creates workstation images for deployment to appropriate end users., • Deploys applications to appropriate end user workstations., • Creates, manages and updates View Desktops in the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure., • Provides training to faculty, staff and students on use of hardware and software on an as needed basis., • Provides assistance moving workstations within the campus to new locations determined by each department as necessary., • Special Projects., • Annual University Workstation upgrade. Skills & Abilities: Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Computer Science or relevant field desired. Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of experience in hardware and software maintenance or relevant experience required. Other Requirements: • Excellent customer service skills with strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills required to effectively communicate., • Perform desktop maintenance, resolve problems, and assist with printer/fax/copier maintenance., • Skills with system and network administration tools, pulling network cables and Mac experience is a plus., • Experience in user support on peripheral devices (i.e., Apple IPad & Blackberry Smart Phones., • Ability to answer technical queries., • Demonstrates problem solving skills and ability to make sound and accurate decisions. Computer Skills: Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office 2010, Windows XP and Windows 7 Operating Systems; Altiris Imaging Software; PC hardware/software configuration and troubleshooting required.
