Job Summary Responsible for infrastructure technology ship and shore site surveys, job planning, creating technical drawings, creating customer quotes, generating scopes of work, contractor work plans and/or oversight of a wide variety of activities for purposes leading shipboard/marine and/or commercial/shoreside projects. Summary of Essential Job Functions, Specific Duties, and Responsibilities • Use and verify function of specialized copper and fiber testing devices and system-defined standards used to test compliance requirements and document results., • Work with other members of the design team to complete all required documents and bills of material, scopes, etc. at the assigned office or offsite 365 days a year, 24/7 (within reason)., • Provide technical assistance to other design engineers and Project Leads as required., • Ability to provide a complete infrastructure technology turn-key solution to customers when needed., • Pre- and post-project Reviews with Project Lead for all projects assigned., • Define team member roles and expectations and ensure timely feedback. Ensure project resources receive any necessary training and are used effectively., • Measure and monitor progress at clearly defined points in process to ensure the project is delivered on time, within budget, and meets or exceeds expectations. Balance scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risks. Make adjustments as necessary., • Ensure all requirements, project plans, and changes to commitment are communicated to all affected team members., • Manage relationships and coordinate work between different teams at different locations. Manage relationships with all suppliers and subcontractors. Monitor progress and adherence to the contract. REPORTING STRUCTURE Technical Design Engineer/Project Lead will report directly to the Operations Manager. Qualifications and Education Requirements: • High school diploma or GED supplemented by either associate degree in related field or vocation training in applicable field or 3 to 5 years of experience which includes required skills, knowledge, and abilities., • Considerable knowledge of cabling infrastructure and electronic components required for networking., • Considerable knowledge of regulatory governing bodies such as DNV, Lloyd’s Register, BV as well as EIA/TIA codes, BICSI standards, etc., • Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, Project, Adobe Pro, AutoCAD, and Visio, • Must be proficient with basic electrical theory and practice., • Understanding of rules and regulations of each job site in which the project will be performed. 3+ years’ experience in Project Management, preferably in a technical environment, • 2+ years’ experience in Project Management in the Travel & Leisure Industry (Ship Project experience preferred) Working conditions and physical effort: Physical: • Must be able to operate a variety of IT equipment and tools including diagnostic and testing equipment, hand tools and power tools., • Must be able to go through and work in very confined spaces., • Must be able to work outdoors in hot and very cold conditions, including indoors (such as commercial/industrial freezer with subzero degree temperatures), • Must be able to climb ladders and work on lifts higher than 100 feet., • Must be able to work upright (on feet) for periods in excess of 8 hours, to include both walking and standing. Problem Solving: • Must be able to reason and think logically., • Must be able to analyze problems and to develop corrective actions., • Must be able to work with others to collectively solve problems., • Must be able to multitask several projects and prioritize workload to meet deadlines., • Must be able to systematically maintain engineering records and archives. Other: • Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondences, manuals, instructions, journals, etc., • Requires the ability to utilize basic mathematics (add, subtract, multiply divide, utilize decimals and percentages, measure, etc.)., • Ability to effectively interface and collaborate with customers and other stakeholders., • Should be a “self-starter” (show initiative) and follow through to completion with little guidance., • Able to present themselves and their work in a professional manner to management and to customers., • Must be able to prepare and complete forms, reports, documentation, etc. AND be able to apply basic rules of grammar, punctuation, dictation, and style., • Requires the ability to speak and signal people to convey or exchange information, includes receiving instructions assignments or directions from superiors., • Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with people under stress; able to deal with interpersonal temperament., • Must be able to differentiate between specific colors and shades of colors on cable wires, etc., • Able to provide continuing education on new industry practices and procedures. Waveguide Communications services the cruise ship industry, requiring our Technical Design Engineers / Project Leads to travel globally. The requirements below are therefore mandatory. General Requirements: • Be able to travel outside the U.S. for long periods of time., • Be financially self-sufficient for discretionary spending as well as incidental (reimbursable) business expenses., • Possess a credit card and a U.S. bank account (WGC transfers pay and expenses electronically into your accounts)., • Be able to pass 7-year background check through local Port Authorities., • Be in possession of or immediately obtain “TWIC” card (non-paid by WGC)., • Be able to obtain applicable port badges – regular fees paid by WGC, late fees are on own., • Must possess excellent organizational, time management, judgment, multitasking, and decision-making skills. U.S. Citizens: • Be in possession of a valid U.S. Passport., • Be in possession of a certified Birth Certificate., • Be in possession of a valid Social Security Card., • Be in possession of a valid Driver License, Florida or other State.
