Job Summary The Senior Accountant will apply their expertise in accounting principles and practices, particularly in areas such as fixed assets, accrued liabilities, cash flow statements, prepaid expenses, and revenue and expense accounts. Responsibilities include preparing and posting journal entries, performing account reconciliations, supporting month-end close activities, and assisting in financial statement preparation and monthly Board reports. This role requires adherence to GAAP and company accounting policies, including record preparation, research, and reporting related to general ledger activities, reconciliations, financial reports, schedules, and audits. schedules, and audits. Responsibilities Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following: • Assist the Controller and Assistant Controller in reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for accuracy., • Prepare and review assigned balance sheet reconciliations; investigate and resolve discrepancies., • Record monthly journal entries accurately and on schedule., • Review amortization schedules for prepaid expenses and insurance; communicate findings to the team., • Prepare financial statements and budgets according to established timelines., • Collaborate with external auditors during the annual audit., • Support tax audits and assist with tax return preparation., • Contribute to month-end and year-end close processes., • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to enhance internal controls., • Ensure compliance with GAAP., • Conduct monthly meetings with department leads to review budget vs. actual expenses., • Provide backup support for other Accounting team members’ month-end duties., • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and integrated accounting systems., • Advanced Excel skills, including Macros/VBA, PivotTables, and complex formulas., • Experience with ERP systems and databases., • Strong interest in contributing to departmental goals., • Ability to quickly learn proprietary and cloud-based software., • Willingness to improve existing processes., • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills., • Strong analytical and strategic planning abilities., • Exceptional customer service and communication skills with the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing to explain complex situations in simple terms., • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision in an accurate and organized fashion., • Proactive team player with mentoring and knowledge-sharing capabilities., • Collaborative and flexible approach to working across departments., • Professional demeanor and representation of the company., • Solid understanding of GAAP, economic and banking processes, and financial data analysis., • Indoor office environment with extended periods of sitting., • 4–6 years of relevant or public accounting experience., • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (preferred)., • CPA certification or candidacy (preferred)., • Knowledge of GAAP; familiarity with CFR Part 32 is a plus., • Experience in Telecommunications industry is a plus., • Experience with Acumatica ERP is a plus., • Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening., • Competitive Salary Commensurate with Experience, • Medical, Dental, and Vision, • Supplemental Benefits - Accident, Critical Illness, Hospital Care, • Life and Disability, • Flexible Spending Accounts, • 401K with Match, • Life Assistance Plan, • Wellness Plan, • Vacation, Personal, Sick, and Holiday Pay, • Ongoing Professional Training & Educational Reimbursement Program Equal Employment Opportunities: Smart City is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all persons regardless of race, color, ancestry, citizenship, national origin, religion, veteran status, disability, genetic characteristic or information, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, family status, pregnancy, or other legally protected status (collectively, “protected statuses”).
