Job Description Duration: 12+ Months (possible extension) General Description The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals and snacks in accordance with established menus, recipes, dietary guidelines, and applicable health and safety regulations. The Cook works in a food service or institutional setting and reports to the Building Director. Duties and Responsibilities • Meal Preparation: Prepare breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and other food items according to approved menus, recipes, and meal plans., • Prepare food in appropriate quantities while maintaining proper portion control, quality, taste, and nutritional standards., • Food Safety and Sanitation: Follow all applicable food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards, including proper food handling, storage, preparation, and temperature control., • Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen by regularly washing dishes and cleaning countertops, stoves, refrigerators, garbage containers, and other kitchen equipment., • Inventory Management: Monitor food and kitchen supply inventory, maintain accurate counts, notify supervisors of low-stock items, and assist with receiving and properly storing food supplies., • Maintain appropriate records of food usage and supplies and submit required inventory reports., • Collaboration: Work cooperatively with kitchen staff, dietary aides, supervisors, and other personnel to ensure timely meal service and compliance with dietary requirements., • Customer Service: Interact professionally with students, staff, and other individuals as needed while serving meals and accommodating approved dietary restrictions and food allergies., • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate food and equipment temperature logs, document food usage, and follow established procedures for food waste management., • Child Safety and Well-Being: Support the health, safety, and welfare of children during mealtimes and maintain an accessible file containing information regarding food allergies and dietary restrictions., • Provide assistance to other staff as needed, including occasional cleaning of toys, providing break coverage, and supporting overall cleanliness and sanitation., • Maintain clear and timely communication with supervisors and parents regarding food-related concerns or issues., • Complete required First Aid and Infant CPR training., • Perform other related duties as assigned. Schedule: Full-time Cooks must maintain a flexible work schedule, which may include weekends and holidays. All responsibilities must be performed efficiently and in compliance with applicable health and safety regulations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Basic verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate information and concepts clearly to students, staff, and families., • Ability to prepare and serve meals and snacks in accordance with approved menus and guidance provided by a Registered Dietitian., • Familiarity with USDA meal requirements for children, including portion sizes and nutritional content., • Basic knowledge of child nutrition, food allergies, and dietary restrictions., • Basic ability to perform arithmetic operations involving fractions, percentages, ratios, measurements, and quantities., • Ability to interpret basic technical information and data., • Ability to complete required documentation and maintain accurate records., • Ability to communicate effectively and participate in group discussions., • Ability to follow established recipes, menus, health guidelines, safety procedures, and workplace policies., • Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary food preparation environment., • Ability to work effectively as part of a team., • Ability to prioritize tasks and complete meal preparation and service in a timely manner. Certifications and Training • Must complete First Aid and Infant CPR training as required., • Must maintain all required training and certifications applicable to the position.
