Job DescriptionJob Title: MachinistJob Description This role sets up and operates both manual and CNC machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, boring machines, and grinders, to machine plastic and metal workpieces to precise specifications. You will work to exacting tolerances, determine appropriate speeds and feeds, interpret blueprints, and help ensure the quality of finished products. In addition to machining, you may serve as a final inspector for manufactured components, verifying that all parts meet required standards. Responsibilities • Set up and operate CNC lathes and mills to machine plastic and metal workpieces according to engineering drawings and specifications., • Run manual lathes and mills, boring machines, drill presses, and grinders to produce parts to tight tolerances., • Determine proper speeds, feeds, tooling, and workholding methods to achieve high-quality results and efficient production., • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings, visualizing the finished product and planning machining operations accordingly., • Recognize, report, and help correct errors or inconsistencies in blueprints and work instructions., • Operate and troubleshoot CNC machines, including 5-axis equipment, to maintain accuracy and minimize downtime., • Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other inspection equipment to verify dimensions., • Perform grinding operations using surface grinders and Blanchard grinders to achieve required finishes and dimensions., • Carry out mechanical assembly tasks that require reading and following blueprints and assembly drawings., • Monitor machine performance, identify issues, and perform basic troubleshooting to maintain safe and efficient operation., • Follow established shop procedures, safety guidelines, and quality standards throughout all machining and inspection activities., • May function as final inspector for finished products, ensuring all parts meet dimensional and quality requirements before release.Essential Skills, • 3+ years of experience operating CNC machines, including mills and lathes, in a manufacturing or shop environment., • 3+ years of experience with CNC mills and lathes, including setup and operation., • 3+ years of manufacturing or shop experience, working with machine tools and production equipment., • Proficiency operating CNC lathes and mills., • Proficiency operating manual lathes and mills., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings., • Experience with CNC troubleshooting and machine operation., • Hands-on experience with 5-axis CNC machines., • Skill using grinders, including surface and Blanchard grinders., • Experience operating drill presses and other common shop machinery., • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machining processes., • Ability to work to exacting tolerances and maintain consistent part quality., • Ability to determine appropriate speeds and feeds for various materials and tooling., • Capability to visualize the finished product and plan machining steps accordingly., • Ability to recognize and report potential blueprint errors or inconsistencies.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience using precision measuring tools such as micrometers (mikes), calipers, and height gauges., • Experience operating surface grinders and Blanchard grinders., • Assembly experience that involves reading and following blueprints., • Familiarity with robotics in a machining or manufacturing setting., • Comfort working with a variety of plastics and metals., • Experience functioning as a final inspector or performing detailed dimensional inspections is a plus.Why Work Here? The shop operates as a union environment and offers the opportunity for voluntary overtime, including work on most holidays with double-time pay on Sundays and holidays. You will work around CNC and manual machine tools, grinders, drill presses, and precision inspection equipment in a well-organized production setting. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Jeffersonville, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $56160.00 - $62400.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
