Job Description Field Service Technician – CNC/PLC Automation (Aerospace Manufacturing) Job Summary The Field Service Technician supports after-sales service, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of advanced CNC/PLC-controlled equipment at customer manufacturing sites. This role focuses on troubleshooting, programming, calibration, mechanical/electrical repair, and performance optimization of multi-axis CNC systems in aerospace production environments. The technician partners with customers and internal teams to ensure equipment uptime, acceptance, and end-user training. Core Responsibilities • Install, commission, and maintain CNC-controlled automation equipment at customer facilities., • Perform CNC/PLC programming, calibration, and system adjustments to optimize machine performance., • Troubleshoot alarms, diagnose root cause, and implement corrective technical solutions across control, electrical, mechanical, and software systems., • Support acceptance testing, performance verification, and customer sign-off., • Deliver operator and maintenance training to customers on equipment use, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance., • Create and maintain technical documentation: control manuals, troubleshooting guides, and maintenance procedures., • Maintain accurate service logs, project documentation, and technical notes., • Communicate project status, technical findings, and risks to project coordination and service leadership., • Support continuous improvement and process optimization initiatives. Required Skills & Technologies Automation & Controls • CNC Programming & Troubleshooting, • PLC Programming & Troubleshooting, • Commissioning & Start-Up, • Machine Calibration & Alignment, • Industrial Automation Systems, • Root Cause Analysis, • Siemens Sinumerik / Sinumerik Operate, • Siemens TIA Portal (V15+), • CNC & PLC Alarm Diagnostics, • SQL Server Management Studio, • C++ / Visual Studio Code, • Electrical Schematics Interpretation, • Pneumatic & Hydraulic Systems, • Mechanical Drawings & Assembly, • 5-Axis CNC Machine Alignment, • Laser Interferometer / Laser Tracker, • Cable Fabrication & Connector Repair, • Module Replacement (plug-and-play components), • Calibration & Verification, • Process Optimization, • Technical Documentation, • Field Service Reporting, • Customer Training & Support, • U.S. Citizen or U.S. Person (Permanent Resident)., • 5+ years of experience supporting 5-axis CNC milling centers or similar automation equipment in aerospace or advanced manufacturing., • Hands-on experience with Siemens CNC and PLC platforms (Sinumerik, TIA Portal)., • Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics., • Experience troubleshooting CNC/PLC alarms and identifying root causes., • Experience aligning and calibrating multi-axis CNC equipment., • Associate degree or technical certification in Mechatronics, Automation, Industrial Maintenance, or related field., • Experience with FANUC, Omron, or other PLC/CNC platforms., • Experience with SQL databases and C++ programming., • Spanish language proficiency., • Extensive travel to customer sites across the U.S.; occasional international travel., • Standard schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM; flexibility for overtime, second shift, or weekends as required., • Work performed in manufacturing facilities, machine shops, and industrial environments.
