Entity: Production & Operations Job Family Group: Operations Group Job Description: The Whiting Clean Energy (WCE) Facility is a 525 MW combined cycle cogeneration plant comprised of a 2x1 power block and a 3000gpm demineralizer water plant. WCE provides process steam to the Whiting Refinery and electrical generation to the Midwest ISO. The Outside Operator is a valued member of the Operations team who aids the Operations Specialist-Field Operator (O/S-F) running the unit in a safe, reliable, environmentally sound manner. This person serves as the hands, eyes and ears out on the unit assisting the Operations Specialist-Board Operator in implementing the plan and optimizing the unit. This person works with the Operations Specialist-Field and reports to the Shift Supervisor with direction provided by the Operations Superintendent. Key Accountabilities: * Work with the Operations Specialist-Board to provide necessary unit status information and suggestions for operations improvements. Help to identify process opportunities. * Obtain samples, basic sample analysis, preparing and sending samples to lab. * Conduct thorough unit rounds. • Gas testing including bags, draeger, testers, etc. * Routine manual operational activities such as: non-automated valve switching, blowdown liquid knockout drums, outside readings, cooling water adjustment, tank switching, line switching, tank/truck loading/unloading. * Non-routine/non-emergency support such as: TAR support, project/construction support, procedure/drawing/training material support, HAZOP/MOC support, removing or returning equipment from/to service, special procedures participation, etc. * Performing startup and shutdown activities. Accountability: * Primary accountability for their own safety and safe work practices and jointly accountable for the safety of their specific work team and the safe, environmentally sound operation of their assigned work area while on shift. * Joint accountability in assisting the Operations Specialist-Field and the Operations Specialist-Board to implement the operations plans and optimizing the unit. * Primary accountability for completing routine and non-routine duties as assigned. * Primary accountability for performing routine unit preventative maintenance (See reliability issues). Coordination and Communication: * Informs Operations Specialist-Field of all relevant issues and concerns from their assigned work area while on-shift. * Communicates direct with their team associates on matters related to unit operation, safety, environmental and reliability issues. * Interfaces with Operations Specialist-Board on routine, reliability and emergency situations. Reliability: * Routine manual reliability activities such as: exchanger backflushing, winterization preparation, housekeeping activities. * Routine preventative maintenance such as: changing oil/flush bearings, blowdown/clean sight glasses, pump/equipment switching, filter changeouts, replace/blowdown steam traps, replace pressure gauges, burner tip cleanout, emergency insulation, and corrosion monitoring. * Field monitoring such as: Vibration monitoring on unit pumps, temperature scans of pump bearing housings, etc. Troubleshooting: * Process troubleshooting and problem response (note that Outside Operator must be able to get information from and understand the board). Understand process variable cause and effect. Personnel Development and Training: * Training/qualification/proficiency on: Unit process variable causes and effects, basic understanding, getting information from and interacting with the board. * Training on process troubleshooting and root cause problem analysis. * Expand unit understanding through effective participation in unit gun drills and emergency procedure reviews. Safety: * LOTO support. Assume expanded LOTO responsibilities including ICC development, permit compliance, etc. * Emergency response such as: First responder for fires/spills and shutdown procedures. * Routine safety activities/compliance such as: Safety equipment audits, contractor/maintenance safety compliance, pre-job safety review. Environmental: * Routine environmental compliance such as: Oil in cooling water/Once Through Cooling Water/look boxes/slick watches, API separator checks, fuel gas sampling/analyzer validation, monitor conservation vents/drain, drain plugs, monitor for leaks/spills. Requirements: * High School Diploma or equivalent (required) * Strongly Preferred – Associate Degree in Process Technology * Prior work experience in industrial setting as either operator/technician or craft * Preferred – Military experience * Basic computer skills Located at bp's Whiting Refinery in Whiting, Indiana, the Asset Coordinator is an Operations Specialist for a process unit or area who leads the coordination effort between Operations and Maintenance. Daily, this role tests what is "real in the field" regarding personal safety, process safety, and compliance, and intervenes as necessary to drive performance. The Asset Coordinator is accountable to establish expectations and drive Operations and Maintenance personnel working on their unit to thoroughly assess, understand, and control personal safety risks through the use of safe work permits and compliance with procedures. Key Accountabilities: * Control of Work (CoW) expert for the unit * Ensures safe and efficient implementation of CoW. Considers safe level of work and concurrent work in daily and weekly schedule development. * Prioritizes all maintenance and project work, and sets the daily and weekly work schedules * Ensure adequate Operations support and coverage for work activities. * Ensures equipment is prepared safely and on time for maintenance * Ensure the appropriate approvals are identified for maintenance work. • The Asset Coordinator is accountable to establish expectations and drive completion of Process Safety related maintenance activities, and to ensure the MOC policy is applied for changes that require mechanical work., • Ensures Process Safety related maintenance activities are completed on time. Acts as gatekeeper for whether an MOC is required for an MO., • The Asset Coordinator ensures that LDAR and BWON repairs are completed on time., • The Asset Coordinator leads the maintenance planning process for Operations (Maintenance Work Process). Leads the daily and weekly maintenance scheduling meetings * Prioritizes all maintenance and project work, and sets the daily and weekly work schedules based on production team direction and needs * Ensures EZ notifications are prioritized appropriately * Communicates work plans to unit personnel * With input from the Production Engineer, maintains an evergreen 16 week maintenance look ahead * Prioritizes maintenance backlog planning and management * Accountable for PM compliance * Directs annual winterization efforts and ensures completion * Accountable for issuance of the Maintenance Coordinator Game Plan update on behalf of the operations team. * Ensures work that cannot be performed on stream is fully scoped and incorporated into the TAR work list. • The Asset Coordinator leads the development of (on behalf of Operations) and delivers the annual maintenance budget., • The Asset Coordinator is accountable for creating and nurturing a culture of teamwork, learning, two-way communication, and integrity. Education and Experience: * High School Diploma or equivalent required. * Additional technical education or equivalent in engineering is desirable. * 7 years of experience in petrochemical operations OR 3 years of experience in a relevant industry with a technical degree Why Join Our Team?
