Job Description REGISTERED NURSE - PER DIEM POSITION SUMMARY: The Registered Nurse will coordinate, provide, and arrange for medical services for clients within their level of care as defined by the treatment program. They will work under the direction of the Director of Nursing Services, and will be a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team, acting as liaison between the Medical Department and other agency programs. The Registered Nurse will make nursing diagnosis of actual or potential health problems, collaborating in the implementation of the medical treatment regimen under the direction of a licensed Physician, Physician’s Assistant, Advanced Practice Nurse or Dentist. They will be accountable to set daily and long term task priorities to ensure the timely delivery of health services and is expected to have the expertise to fulfill their job responsibilities with minimal supervision. The Registered Nurse is expected to maintain appropriate personal boundaries with all people while on shift, is expected to be sensitive to a culturally diverse population, and is expected to perform other related duties as assigned. POSITION STATUS: Non-Exempt TECHNOLOGIES: Microsoft Office Suite Accountable and responsible for the following results: • Reviews and signs Admission Health Assessments., • Assists M.D., P.A., or APRN’s with physical exams and other health assessments., • Medication administration, storage, and handling per agency Policy and Procedure., • Supervises the LPN, Medical Assistant, and DCF Medication Certified Staff in the performance of their duties., • Triages health problems and schedules appointments., • Assesses physical restraints of clients by:, • Responding and reporting to physical restraint occurrences immediately for monitoring and review of a client’s emotional state, and performing mental status evaluations., • Assessing physical distress signs during a physical hold, and performing physical distress assessments., • Evaluating the health of clients following all physical restraints., • Generating incident reports after debriefings with staff and the client that include review of the client’s mental status and a nursing injury assessment., • Conducts a Mental Status Exam for individuals served, in the absence of a clinician (i.e. 3rd shift) and coordinates with the Medical Director., • Inputs all medically-related notes, prescriptions, and doctor’s orders in the Electronic Health Record of the individual being served., • Client health education., • Maintains timely and accurate documentation in the client’s medical chart., • Collects data for infection control and quality improvement purposes., • Participates in providing Quality Assurance statistics and Client Outcome Measures., • Maintains good standing with the Professional Staff Organization., • Maintains all mandatory trainings as assigned., • Participates in staff and departmental meetings, in-service training programs, and attends meetings as required, workshops, and conferences. Effectively utilizes supervision, • Maintains appropriate personal boundaries with those served at The Children's Center of Hamden. Bachelor’s or Associates Degree required. A minimum of two years related administrative experience ideally with a pediatric population. Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Understanding of the dynamics of our special needs population and the ability to work effectively with them. Should be able to supervise youth to maintain discipline and order, and should have the ability to supervise and educate staff in the application of medical procedures and the administration of medication. LICENSURE / CERTIFICATIONS Proof of current Connecticut licensure as a Registered Nurse.
