Job Description Summary The person selected for this position must be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children, especially in the field ofEarly Childhood Educationor Development. This person must be a sensitive and mature individual who is able to relate well to both children and adults and the community in which the children live. Duties JOB DESCRIPTION: CLASSROOM TEACHER QUALIFICATIONS: 1)The person selected for this position must be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children, especially in the field ofEarly Childhood Educationor Development. This person must be a sensitive and mature individual who is able to relate well to both children and adults and the community in which the children live. 2)a.) Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Studies or Early Childhood Education with student teaching and have 2 years of working experience with young children. b.) Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in a closely related field, have at least 12 credits in Child Studies or Early Childhood Education, have 3 years of working experience with young children, and be willing to actively pursue the ECTC. RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following: • Planning, supervising, and implementing the program for the class in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the school., • Gearing the program to the need of the individual child with concerns for his/her developmental needs (social, emotional, mental, intellectual, physical), interest, handicaps, special talents, and individual style and pace of learning., • Providing care and protection of the children., • Considering the individual child in relationship to his/her cultural and socioeconomic background., • Treating each child with dignity and respect., • Helping each child to become aware of his role as an integral member of a group., • Being responsible for the ordered arrangement, appearance, decor, and learning environment of the classroom. Planning and arranging for the acquisition and optimum use of all necessary teaching materials. Keeping the classroom in order and the equipment and supplies in good condition. Responsible for classroom inventory at the beginning and end of year., • Assuming an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff., • Attending all staff meetings, planning, and implementing one staff training meeting each school year., • Participating in recommended training programs, conferences, courses, and other aspects of professional growth., • Implementing methods for effectively utilizing the service of classroom assistants and volunteers. Supervising and regularly evaluating all assistants in cooperation with Executive Director, having regular conferences with assistants to plan and evaluate the program., • Planning and implementing methods of establishing a positive liaison with parents of the children., • Assisting in public relations events and fundraising activities by the center., • Maintaining records as indicated., • Maintaining professional attitude and loyalty to the school at all times., • Conferences with either the Executive Director, Social Worker, Curriculum Specialist, the Special Education Consultant, or the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, monthly to discuss issues regarding curriculum plans, development of each child in the classroom, behavioral problems, speech, hearing, vision impairments, ongoing role of teacher assistant, aides, and volunteers. Also, classroom supply needs, parent conferences, problems, concerns, courses or workshops, conferences, etc. attended will be discussed., • Weekly meeting with volunteer regarding ongoing training and knowledge of children’s needs., • Monthly classroom parent letter., • Responsible for record keeping: children’s evaluations, daily attendance, daily meal count, field trip forms, late fee forms, contributions to six month reports and yearly program plan., • Any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director. QUALIFICATIONS: • Hold an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education and have 1 year of working experience with young children., • Present evidence of activity pursuing further preparation., • Warm and friendly personality., • Sensitive to the feelings and needs of others., • Be able to relate well to children, adults, and community in which the children live., • Be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the school’s educational philosophy. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: • Assisting in planning and implementing the daily program under the direction of the Teacher., • Assisting in planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up interest centers, and preparing needed material and supplies. Plan and arrange all necessary teaching material with the teacher., • Supervising the classroom when the teacher is out of the room. Assume full responsibility for the group and the program in the absence of the teacher., • Helping with the general housekeeping tasks., • Assisting the teacher in any other appropriate tasks., • Maintaining professional attitude and loyalty to the school at all times., • Treating all children with dignity and respect., • Attending all staff meetings and recommended training programs and conferences and partaking in all day care/preschool events., • Participating in professional organizations that work for the improvement of early childhood education., • Share with the Executive Director, pertinent information obtained through contact with parents., • Keeping the classroom in order and the equipment and supplies in good condition., • Maintain records as indicated., • Any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
