Job Summary: A Supervisor, Shipping Team in an automotive parts manufacturing company is typically responsible for overseeing and coordinating the shipping operations within a specific group or department. The primary role involves managing the efficient and timely shipment of finished automotive parts to customers or other facilities. This role plays a crucial role in ensuring that the shipping processes run smoothly, products are delivered on time, and customer satisfaction is maintained. They must be organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Job Responsibilities: Your supervisor may from time to time ask you to perform other related duties not specifically included in this job description. This job's key responsibilities include: • Team Leadership: Provide leadership and guidance to the shipping team. Supervise and manage the performance of shipping team members. Foster a positive and productive work environment., • Scheduling and Planning: Develop and implement schedules for shipping activities. Coordinate with other departments to ensure the timely availability of finished products for shipment., • Order Processing: Oversee the processing of customer orders and internal shipping requests. Ensure accuracy in order fulfillment and address any discrepancies., • Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with the production team to prevent shortages or excess stock. Implement inventory control measures to track and manage stock effectively., • Shipping Procedures: Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for packing, labeling, and loading of products. Ensure that all shipping activities comply with safety and quality standards., • Documentation: Supervise the preparation of shipping documents, including bills of lading, packing lists, and customs documentation. Verify the accuracy and completeness of shipping paperwork., • Quality Control: Implement quality control processes to inspect products before shipment. Address and resolve any quality issues or defects in collaboration with the quality control department., • Communication: Communicate with internal stakeholders, such as production, logistics, and customer service teams, to coordinate shipping activities. Address inquiries from customers or other departments regarding shipment status and related issues., • Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to shipping efficiency, accuracy, and on-time delivery. Generate reports on shipping activities and present them to higher management., • Safety and Compliance: Ensure that the shipping team adheres to safety protocols and complies with industry regulations. Stay informed about changes in shipping regulations and implement necessary adjustments., • Management: Provide strong leadership to the team. Set individual objectives, performance expectations, foster a culture of accountability, and drive continuous improvement., • Team Leadership and Development: Recruit, develop, and lead and mentor a high-performing team. Provide guidance on best practices, industry trends, and professional development., • Talent Development: Develop talent through training programs, performance management, coaching, and succession planning. Job Qualifications: • Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is typically the minimum requirement. However, preference will be for candidates with post-secondary education, such as an associate or bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field., • Skills & Experience, • Technical Experience: 1-3 years in a relevant technical field., • Previous Supervisory Experience: Prior experience in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably in shipping, logistics, or a related field, is often preferred., • Industry Experience: Minimum of 3 years automotive / manufacturing experience, • Shipping Experience: Familiarity with the automotive parts manufacturing industry and its specific shipping requirements is required., • Training and Certifications: Relevant training or certifications in logistics, supply chain management, or related areas can be helpful. Working Conditions: • The automotive industry, including parts manufacturing, is often fast paced. Shipping may need to work efficiently to keep up with production schedules, respond to changes in demand, and address unexpected shipping / receiving issues., • Occasional overtime may be required. While the core hours may follow a standard workweek, flexibility may be needed to handle urgent matters, especially during peak production times or when addressing unexpected shipping disruptions., • Meeting production deadlines and ensuring that shipping is on time requires effective time management and the ability to work well under pressure., • Tolerance to Temperature and Noise: Automotive manufacturing environments can be noisy, and temperature conditions may vary., • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): must be willing to use and comply with the use of PPE, such as safety glasses, ear protection, gloves, and other safety gear, as required by the manufacturing environment. Environmental, Health and Safety Expectations: Employee Responsibilities: • Work in compliance with ABC Standards, EHS Policies, Local, Regional and Federal acts, bylaws, and regulations., • Report any spills or leaks immediately., • Use personal protective equipment and clothing as required., • All Employees shall follow Site Workplace Safety Guidelines., • No Employee shall remove or make ineffective any protective device and must report missing or damaged protective devices., • No Employee shall use or operate any equipment, machine, or device in a manner that may endanger themself or another worker, including the operation of equipment, machine, or device without proper training or certifications where required., • No Employee shall engage in horseplay or unsafe acts., • Employees must immediately report any hazard(s), unsafe act/condition, near miss or incident regardless of severity to their Group Leader., • All Employees must maintain a drug and alcohol-free workplace in compliance with the substance abuse policy. Supervisor Responsibilities: • Make sure workers maintain compliance with ABC Standards, EHS Policies, and Local, Regional, Federal acts, bylaws, and regulations., • Make sure that workers use prescribed protective equipment and devices., • Advise workers of potential and actual hazards, • Provide workers with the necessary resources for the protection of themselves and their colleagues., • Take every reasonable precaution in the circumstances for the protection of workers. Security and Housekeeping: • Ensure visitors and contractors follow the Contractor Management Policies / Site-specific Procedures., • All Employees must use the designated employee entrance and exit doors. Under no circumstances can employees prop or cause to remain open any entrance or exit door that could permit entry to the facility for unauthorized individuals., • All employees shall ensure the building is always clean and a safe workplace., • No food or drink is permitted in the warehouse or production area, unless in a spill proof container.
