Role: Senior Fire Risk Assessor (JPC-122) Location: Remote Sector: Public & Private Sector Consultancy Salary: £55,000 - £70,000 Overview The Senior Fire Risk Assessor is responsible for overseeing the delivery of fire risk assessments across a portfolio of buildings, ensuring compliance with current legislation and best practice. This role involves leading and mentoring a team of assessors, reviewing and approving reports, and providing clear, pragmatic advice to clients on remedial actions and fire safety management. The Senior Fire Risk Assessor acts as the primary technical contact for complex or high-risk sites, supporting strategic decision-making and maintaining the highest standards of quality and consistency in fire safety reporting. Key Responsibilities • Conduct comprehensive Fire Risk Assessments (Types 1–4): Perform detailed on-site inspections and assessments of buildings to identify potential fire hazards, evaluate fire risks, and determine the effectiveness of existing fire safety measures., • Analyse fire safety systems and procedures: Review and evaluate fire detection, alarm, and suppression systems, emergency lighting, evacuation plans, and other fire protection measures to confirm compliance with current regulations and assess their performance in mitigating fire risks., • Identify and report deficiencies: Document areas of non-compliance or inadequate fire safety measures, providing clear, pragmatic recommendations for corrective actions, system improvements, and strategic upgrades., • Prepare detailed technical reports: Produce comprehensive, high-quality reports outlining findings, observations, and recommendations, ensuring technical accuracy and clarity for clients, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities., • Mentor and develop the team: Lead, coach, and support fire risk assessors in enhancing their technical knowledge, analytical ability, and understanding of fire engineering principles. Guide them along structured development pathways toward professional accreditation and progression into fire engineering roles., • Promote collaboration and communication: Work closely with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and project managers to gather information, coordinate assessments, and provide practical guidance on fire safety compliance and design integration., • Provide expert advice and technical leadership: Act as a subject matter expert on fire risk assessment and fire safety management, offering authoritative guidance to clients and internal teams to ensure the implementation of effective, proportionate fire safety solutions., • Ensure regulatory and industry compliance: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UK fire safety legislation, guidance, and industry best practices, integrating new standards into assessment methodologies and client recommendations., • Champion quality and consistency: Review and approve reports prepared by team members, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and alignment with internal quality management systems., • Support continuous improvement through updates to templates, procedures, and assessment processes. Working with: Principally Local Authorities, Housing Associations and other Clients. Skills and qualifications based on company criteria The candidate for the role of Validator for Fire Risk Assessors should meet the following qualifications and competencies as specified in nationally recognised Competency Criteria for Fire Risk Assessors (Appendix A-I of the Competency Criteria for Fire Risk Assessors, Fire Sector Federation): • Competence: The candidate should have a deep understanding of the Fire Risk Assessment process and be able to assess the competence of Fire Risk Assessors according to the established criteria., • Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of fire safety regulations, codes and standards relevant to Fire Risk Assessments is essential., • Experience: Proven experience in conducting Fire Risk Assessments and a comprehensive understanding of fire safety measures are required., • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, including the ability to provide clear and constructive feedback to Fire Risk Assessors, are essential., • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail is necessary for accurately evaluating and validating Fire Risk Assessments., • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills are required to assess the adequacy and compliance of Fire Risk Assessments with established criteria., • Independence: Ability to work independently and objectively validate Fire, • Risk Assessments impartially., • Team Work: Collaboration with colleagues in the validation process and supporting the continuous improvement of Fire Risk Assessment practices is essential., • Ethical Conduct: Adherence to ethical conduct and professional integrity in the validation process is of utmost importance.
