Our client, a well-established, stable consultancy business and are looking for a Health and Safety Consultant to join our team, supporting SME clients across the Midlands and beyond. This is a development role designed for someone earlier in their H&S career, with a clear pathway from Level 3 / TechIOSH through to Level 6 / GradIOSH. You will receive structured support, mentoring and funded training to build your capability as a confident, client-facing consultant. More experienced candidates will also be considered (salary reflective up to £50,000.) This position is predominantly focused on construction clients, including support with Construction Health & Safety and CDM 2015. Experience in the construction sector is preferred, and candidates with a construction background (where H&S has been a significant element) will be strongly considered. Role details • Salary: Starting at £37,000 (flexible for stronger qualifications / relevant experience up to £50,000), • Contract: Full-time, • Working pattern:Office, client and site based (typically 2–3 days per week on client sites, with the remainder office based; travel required and flexible working where practical), • Location: Most clients are in the Midlands, however you must be prepared to travel further if required, • A structured professional development plan and ongoing support, • A mix of study time during working hours and personal study time, • Shadowing an experienced Consultant initially, progressing to managing your own client base, • Strong team collaboration and support to problem-solve and build knowledge, • Complete construction site inspections and audits, checking practical compliance with CDM 2015 and core construction safety duties, • Review and support key documentation, including Construction Phase Plans (CPPs), RAMS, inductions/briefings, and emergency arrangements, • Help clients understand and meet their duties as Client / Principal Contractor / Contractor (as applicable), including clear roles, competence and coordination, • Support contractor management (pre-qualification, onboarding, monitoring and performance review), • Provide practical advice on controlling common construction risks (e.g., work at height, lifting, excavations/temporary works, plant/traffic management, COSHH, electrical safety, public interface), • Support incident/near-miss investigations, corrective actions, learning, and RIDDOR guidance where required, • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel (including occasional travel outside the Midlands), • Strong IT skills and confident use of Microsoft Office, • Excellent communication and client-facing skills, • Logical thinking and problem-solving ability, • Strong organisational skills with the ability to work on your own initiative and manage your diary, • TechIOSH (minimum), or a suitable Level 3 qualification enabling TechIOSH membership, such as:, • NEBOSH General Certificate, • NEBOSH Construction Certificate (preferred), • Interest in, and experience of working in, the construction sector (a distinct advantage), • Exposure to construction sites, contractor management, or project environments, • CSCS card (preferred, not essential), • Good commercial awareness / acumen, • Experience in construction roles where H&S has been a key element (e.g., site supervisor, site manager or machine operator)Benefits, • Genuine career development and structured progression (TechIOSH GradIOSH), • Competitive salary, • Funded qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 6), • Mileage allowance, • Company vehicle or cash allowance after successful 6-month probation (if preferred), • Mobile phone and laptop, • 33 days annual leave including bank holidays with additional service day after 5 years, • Company pension
