Summary We are looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to drive project success through expert cost management, contractual control, and strategic team leadership. The ideal candidate will bring proven experience in managing budgets, leading change processes, resolving conflicts, and ensuring robust governance across complex projects. With strong stakeholder engagement skills and deep knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts, they will oversee risk, forecasting, procurement, and supply chain performance while guiding project teams to deliver high‑quality results. This role requires a proactive, detail‑driven professional who can shape commercial strategy, maintain strict cost control, and support continuous improvement across projects valued from £10m to £50m+. Commercial Management • Full ownership of project cost planning, forecasting, reporting, and budget control., • Ensuring projects are delivered within budget, with proactive commercial risk management., • Managing cost/value reconciliations (CVRs) and delivering monthly commercial reports., • Monitoring cash flow and ensuring timely invoicing applications. Contractual Management • Working under standard forms such as JCT, NEC, FIDIC (depending on sector)., • Drafting, issuing, and managing contract notices, including Early Warnings (NEC) and Instructions (JCT)., • Assessment and negotiation of variations, compensation events, and claims., • Ensuring the project team complies with contract requirements and deadlines. Procurement & Supply Chain • Developing procurement strategies and tendering subcontract packages., • Negotiating terms, preparing subcontract orders, and managing supply chain relationships., • Evaluating subcontractor applications, variations, and final accounts. Cost Control & Forecasting • Managing budgets, cost plans, and change control processes., • Maintaining accurate forecasts for labour, materials, subcontractors, preliminaries, and risk allowances., • Identifying cost trends early and advising project directors on commercial risks/opportunities. Change Management • Managing end‑to‑end change processes: identification → valuation → agreement → records., • Preparing and defending cost justifications for employer changes., • Ensuring robust record‑keeping to support entitlement. Risk & Opportunity Management • Leading commercial risk reviews and developing mitigation strategies., • Identifying value‑engineering opportunities to protect margin., • Supporting claims preparation when needed. Project Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement • Acting as commercial lead on projects up to £10m–£50m+ depending on sector., • Collaborating with project managers, planners, design managers, and finance teams., • Representing the contractor in commercial meetings with clients and consultants., • Providing guidance to project teams on commercial matters. Team Leadership & Mentoring • Managing Assistant QSs and QSs, reviewing their work, and developing their technical skills., • Allocating responsibilities, checking key documents, and helping shape commercial strategy.
