Key Stage 3 SEND/SEMH Teacher Location: East London (E15) Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience) Contract: Permanent, Term Time Only Reporting to: Deputy Headteacher The Role Our client is seeking a dedicated and resilient Key Stage 3 SEND Teacher to join their specialist provision supporting pupils with additional needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to work within a therapeutic education environment, delivering high-quality teaching alongside strong pastoral support. The role focuses on supporting pupils with neurodiversity, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The successful candidate will take a holistic approach to education, ensuring pupils feel safe, supported, and able to engage in learning. They will be responsible for delivering a creative and differentiated curriculum while promoting positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and personal development. Key Responsibilities Teaching & Learning • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons for KS3 pupils, • Deliver a broad, balanced curriculum using nurturing and therapeutic approaches, • Design creative schemes of work and thematic learning projects linked to EHCP targets, • Incorporate functional Maths and English skills across all areas of learning, • Adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of pupils with ASC and SEMH, • Provide learning opportunities in a variety of contexts, including community-based settings Pupil Support & Engagement • Act as a form tutor, building strong, consistent relationships with pupils, • Support pupils’ emotional regulation, wellbeing, and personal development, • Use positive reinforcement and consistent behaviour strategies, • Promote independence, responsibility, and engagement in learning, • Work closely with therapeutic teams to support pupils displaying challenging behaviour Leadership & Collaboration • Line manage and support classroom staff, including delivering supervision and appraisals, • Work collaboratively with support staff to implement individual education and behaviour plans, • Liaise with families, external professionals, and multi-disciplinary teams, • Support the development of a consistent, nurturing classroom environment Assessment & Reporting • Monitor and track pupil progress, ensuring accurate and timely reporting, • Produce progress reports and provide updates to senior leadership, • Monitor attendance and raise concerns where necessary, • Complete and review risk assessments for school and community-based activities About the Pupils Pupils within this provision often have complex needs, including autism and SEMH challenges. Many will have experienced disrupted education and require a nurturing, structured approach to re-engage with learning. The provision focuses on building trust, developing emotional literacy, and supporting pupils to achieve both academic progress and personal growth. Candidate Profile Essential requirements: • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent, • Experience teaching Key Stage 3 pupils, • Experience supporting pupils with SEND, particularly ASC and/or SEMH, • Strong understanding of safeguarding and inclusive education Key skills and attributes: • Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, • A calm, consistent, and nurturing approach to behaviour management, • Strong organisational and communication skills, • Ability to lead and support a team effectively, • Resilience and adaptability in a dynamic environment, • Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusive practice The Organisation’s Approach Our client delivers education through a therapeutic model that combines high-quality teaching with strong pastoral care.
