Our National law firm client are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Risk & Compliance Solicitor to join their Risk and Compliance team in Birmingham. This role offers the opportunity to work across a broad range of regulatory, professional conduct, and risk management matters, with a particular focus on professional negligence, claims management, and regulatory compliance within a legal services environment. \n The successful candidate will support the General Counsel and wider Risk team in managing the firm's professional risks, regulatory obligations, claims portfolio, and governance framework, while providing pragmatic and commercial advice to Lawyers and senior stakeholders across the business. \n This position is ideally suited to a qualified Solicitor with experience in professional negligence, professional indemnity insurance, dispute resolution, claims handling, or law firm risk and compliance. \n Key Responsibilities: \n\n • Supporting the General Counsel and senior Risk Lawyers in the management of professional negligence claims, complaints, and circumstances notifications.\n, • Reviewing legal matter files and investigating potential claims, complaints, and risk issues.\n, • Preparing instructions to external counsel, insurers, and brokers where required.\n, • Maintaining claims records, registers, and bordereaux, ensuring accurate reporting and tracking of claims and potential exposures.\n, • Assisting in the management of disclosure exercises, investigations, and litigation relating to claims against the firm.\n, • Supporting the management of the firm's Professional Indemnity Insurance arrangements, including renewals, notifications, and insurer liaison.\n, • Supporting the firm's compliance with its regulatory and professional obligations, including the SRA Standards and Regulations.\n, • Researching and drafting responses to legal and regulatory queries from Partners, Lawyers, and business services teams.\n, • Drafting and reviewing client-facing documentation, including engagement letters, terms of business, outside counsel guidelines, and legal notices.\n, • Providing practical and commercially focused risk advice to Lawyers and senior stakeholders.\n, • Supporting firm-wide projects, including operational change initiatives, new office openings, and regulatory compliance programmes.\n, • Drafting internal guidance notes, policies, and communications to support compliance and risk awareness across the firm.\n\n Experience & Knowledge required: \n\n • Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales.\n, • Proven experience in professional negligence, professional indemnity, claims management, dispute resolution, or risk and compliance matters.\n, • Strong understanding of legal and regulatory risk within a law firm or professional services environment.\n, • Experience handling or supporting claims, complaints, investigations, and contentious matters.\n, • Experience working within an internal Risk & Compliance team of a law firm.\n, • Knowledge of the SRA Standards and Regulations and broader legal sector regulatory requirements.\n, • Experience managing professional indemnity claims and insurer relationships.\n\n Candidate Profile: \n This role would particularly suit a Solicitor who is looking to transition into an internal risk and compliance role at a law firm if they have gained experience in some of the following areas; Professional Negligence, Professional Indemnity Insurance, Dispute Resolution, Regulatory and Compliance Advisory, Law Firm Risk Management, Litigation and Claims Handling. \n For a confidential chat about this or other roles he is handling, please contact Matt Pollard in the Jameson Legal London office.
