Role Overview The Group HSE Performance & Systems Function Leader is a high-impact Group role responsible for shaping how IMI measures, governs, and improves HSE performance across its global operations. The role leads the Group’s HSE performance framework and digital systems, ensuring reliable data, meaningful insight, robust incident learning, and disciplined use of standards across all sites. Acting as a centre of excellence and PMO, the role combines systems leadership, performance insight, assurance, and communication to help raise standards, influence behaviour, and equip the Group HSE Director and senior leaders with clear, credible, and actionable intelligence. This is a Group role with enterprise-wide scope, working across all sectors and regions to ensure consistency of HSE systems, reporting standards, documentation control, and organisational learning. The role requires strong collaboration with sector directors and regional HSE leaders, Communications, IT, external system providers, and senior governance forums, with travel as needed to support implementation, assurance, and leadership engagement. Functional Scope Key Accountabilities HSE Systems Ownership & Governance • Act as global system owner for Group HSE software platforms, ensuring effective configuration, data architecture, user governance, and long-term scalability., • Lead the roll-out of new HSE software, including design of system architecture and data models, definition of HSE reporting standards, and development and implementation of incident investigation and reporting SOPs., • Own system change control, upgrades, user access governance, and data integrity standards., • Serve as the primary interface between Group HSE, IT, and external system providers. HSE Data Quality, Assurance & Insight • Ensure robust quality control of all HSE data inputs, including incidents, actions, audits, observations, and leading and lagging indicators., • Actively challenge and support sites and regions where incident inputs or investigations lack quality, clarity, or sufficient root cause analysis., • Lead root cause analysis at Group level to identify systemic trends, recurring failures, and improvement opportunities., • Analyse action close-out performance and safety observation trends to identify what the data is signalling, where follow-through is weak, and where targeted intervention is required., • Translate complex data into clear insights, enabling leadership to focus on what matters most. Incident Learning & Learning Management • Own and manage the end-to-end learning management process for all HSE incidents., • Ensure incidents are consistently investigated to an appropriate standard, with high-quality learning outcomes., • Drive timely sharing of lessons learned across the Group and track the effectiveness of corrective actions., • Coordinate alignment between incident learning, campaigns, and training content. Campaigns, Communications & Engagement • Lead the planning, coordination, and performance tracking of Group HSE campaigns, working closely with the communications team to develop compelling materials and narratives that support behaviour change and stronger leadership engagement., • Develop leadership messaging and HSE content across multiple channels, including videos, Workvivo updates, and other communication materials, and own the Group HSE hub on Workvivo., • Own and curate all HSE content for the annual Group Safety Day, ensuring alignment to strategic risks, recent incidents, and desired behaviours. HSE Standards, Documentation & Control • Act as Group HSE Standards and Document Governance Lead, ensuring clear ownership of all HSE policies, standards, procedures, and guidance., • Ensure version control, approval workflows, and review cycles are rigorously applied., • Ensure documentation is aligned to legal requirements, internal expectations, and system architecture., • Ensure HSE documentation supports clarity, usability, and consistent implementation across regions. Reporting, Executive Support & External Disclosure • Prepare Group HSE performance reports, dashboards, and executive slide decks for the Group HSE Director, Executive Leadership Team, Board, and senior governance forums., • Develop and coordinate HSE slide decks and supporting content for Group HSE leadership meetings, quarterly HSE all-hands, and other senior leadership forums, ensuring messages are clear, aligned, and insight-led., • Provide high-quality HSE content for annual reports, ESG disclosures, and other external reporting, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and credibility., • Support ad-hoc deep dives, performance reviews, and executive briefings as required. Leadership & Ways of Working • Act as a trusted advisor and constructive challenger to site, regional, and functional HSE leaders., • Set clear expectations on quality, discipline, and accountability in the use of HSE systems and standards., • Influence without direct authority, using data, insight, and professional credibility., • Champion continuous improvement, attention to detail, and high professional standards. Risk, Incident & Assurance • Design and manage system-enabled assurance processes, including self-assessments, maturity reviews, and assurance reporting, to strengthen consistency and visibility across the Group., • Provide Group-level assurance over incident quality, corrective action effectiveness, and closure discipline, identifying recurring weaknesses and escalating material issues where appropriate., • Use HSE data and system outputs to identify emerging risk patterns, repeat events, and areas requiring targeted intervention, supporting more proactive risk management at Group level., • Support the evolution of predictive insight, risk heatmaps, and assurance outputs that help leadership focus on the highest priority HSE risks across the Group. Continuous Improvement & Other Duties • Drive continuous improvement in HSE systems, reporting standards, and performance frameworks by identifying opportunities to simplify, strengthen, and standardise ways of working across the Group., • Support the development of Group HSE capability by sharing good practice, strengthening standards of reporting and assurance, and helping embed effective use of systems and learning processes across regions and sectors., • Carry out other duties appropriate to the role, including support for ad-hoc Group priorities, strategic projects, and evolving HSE governance requirements. Additional Responsibilities • Own the definition and evolution of Group HSE KPIs and leading indicators, and act as the HSE interface for ESG and sustainability reporting to support strong data governance and external disclosure., • Develop predictive insight, risk profiling, and heatmaps that help leadership identify emerging patterns, prioritise intervention, and strengthen assurance planning., • Chair or coordinate a Group community of practice for HSE systems, reporting, and performance leads, and support capability-building through training, guidance, and partnership with the Learning and Development team., • Coordinate IMI’s Framework audit scheduling and support the planning, tracking, and continuous improvement of the audit programme, with scope to participate as a trained Framework auditor where appropriate., • Support HSE onboarding for new starters and new acquisitions, helping integrate them into IMI’s standards, systems, reporting processes, training expectations, and assurance framework. Knowledge, Skills & Experience Essential • Significant experience in senior or Group-level HSE roles within complex, multi-site organisations., • Strong expertise in HSE performance management, digital systems, and data governance., • Proven ability to challenge senior stakeholders and drive consistency across diverse operations., • Deep understanding of incident investigation, root cause analysis, and learning frameworks., • Advanced capability in executive-level reporting and storytelling with data. Desirable • Experience leading global HSE system implementations., • Familiarity with ESG, sustainability, and external HSE reporting requirements., • Strong understanding of international HSE regulatory frameworks. Qualifications / Technical Capability • NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent HSE qualification)., • Training or certification in root cause analysis / incident investigation methodologies., • ISO auditor qualification, preferably aligned to ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001., • Strong digital capability, including Power BI and Microsoft Copilot., • Confidence using digital tools to improve reporting, analysis, communication, and workflow efficiency.
