Are you an Assistant Quantity Surveyor looking for more responsibility, better exposure to projects, and a clear route to becoming a Quantity Surveyor? We’re working with a well-established, financially secure contractor—part of a wider group with a turnover in excess of £1bn—to recruit an Assistant Quantity Surveyor into their Special Projects division. This team is known for delivering complex, fast-paced schemes across a range of sectors. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to move beyond a purely support role and gain real commercial ownership, working closely with experienced senior leaders. About the Role You will report directly into a Senior Quantity Surveyor and Commercial Manager, supporting the commercial delivery of multiple projects simultaneously. Projects typically include: • Large-scale distribution and logistics centres, • Education refurbishments and new build schemes, • MOD (Ministry of Defence) projects This role will be predominantly office-based, giving you strong mentorship and support, while still involving regular site visits to build your practical understanding of delivery. Key Responsibilities • Assist in the commercial management of projects from pre-construction through to final account, • Support the preparation of cost plans, budgets, and financial forecasts, • Assist with subcontractor procurement, including issuing enquiries, analysing returns, and drafting orders, • Manage and track variations and change control processes, • Prepare and assist with monthly valuations and cost reports, • Work alongside site teams to monitor progress, costs, and risk, • Assist in final account negotiations, • Build strong relationships with subcontractors, clients, and internal stakeholders About You • Experience working as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor within a main contractor or fit-out contractor, • Exposure to fit-out, refurbishment, or new build projects, • A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management (or working towards one), • Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail, • Confident communicator with the ability to work collaboratively, • Ambitious, driven, and keen to progress your career Career Development This business places a strong emphasis on internal progression and development.
