You will work across an array of cleanwater infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects as part of our experienced teams in London, Leicester, Manchester and Leeds offices. There will also be opportunity to work across number of wastewater infrastructure and Better Rivers projects. Your core responsibilities will include: • Creating designs from feasibility through to construction and leading the technical design of projects for a variety of projects in terms of size, type, and complexity, both single discipline and as part of a multi-disciplinary team., • Supporting with the appraisal and design of structures and solutions for pumping stations, cleanwater networks, and reservoirs., • Mentoring junior colleagues and supporting their development., • Representing the firm at client meetings, contributing to us winning new work., • Supporting project and team management. About You Our Principal Civil Engineer - Water Engineering will have: • A degree or equivalent in civil engineering, working towards a professional qualification., • CEng with post chartered relevant experience or IEng with post incorporated relevant experience working in the cleanwater sector., • Experience managing cleanwater infrastructure schemes., • Good knowledge of industry design software packages., • Excellent communication skills and a team player with a confident, positive and enthusiastic attitude., • A high level broad-based technical appreciation., • Very good report writing and presentation skills at project level., • Experience in a variety of different forms of contract., • Confident liaising with new and existing clients and an ability to build a good rapport with other parts of our inter-disciplinary practice, and with external design teams., • Robust problem solving skills, taking accountability for assigned work., • The ability to lead a sub-team, focused on delivery of high quality design output., • Experience in mentoring and technical management of a design team., • Experience related to wastewater networks/infrastructure (desirable not essential) ., • Previous experience writing and presenting reports along with client interaction and work winning (desirable not essential). High-risk or strategically sensitive projects will be escalated to a Principal Consultant or Associate as appropriate. * Managing design risk coordination, chairing design risk workshops, and ensuring actions and outcomes are clearly recorded and tracked. * Providing clear, consistent technical advice to clients and design teams, maintaining confidence and regulatory compliance. * Ensuring all CDM deliverables, documentation, and associated tasks are produced to a high standard. * Monitoring and reporting on project financial performance, accurately forecasting utilisation and fee recovery. * Supporting and guiding Consultants and Technical Administrators, offering constructive feedback and informal mentoring. * Reviewing project deliverables to ensure technical accuracy and alignment with relevant standards and best practice. * Identifying project-level risks and opportunities, resolving those within your control and escalating complex, high-risk, or systemic issues to a Principal Consultant or Associate. * Assisting with fee proposals and bid submissions. * Contributing to team problem-solving, process improvement, and knowledge sharing. This full-time (35 Hours) role offers the opportunity to make a genuine impact within a supportive, outcome-focused environment. Working within a multi-disciplinary framework, you’ll provide person-centred treatment using both harm reduction and abstinence-based approaches, tailoring support to individual recovery goals while promoting safety, stability and long-term change.
