Hays are working with a Secondary School in Bolton who are seeking a proactive, skilled and highly organised Facilities Manager to take operational responsibility for the day-to-day management, safety and maintenance of their school site. \n This is a hands-on role, ideal for someone with strong general maintenance experience, excellent organisational skills and a commitment to maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors. \n \n Salary: £28,000 - £35,000 per annum (Dependent on Experience) \n Start Date: ASAP \n Location: Bolton, BL3 \n Contract: Permanent \n Hours: Monday to Thursday 6:30am - 3pm, Friday 6:30am - 11:30am \n \n About the Role \n As a Facilities Manager, you will oversee all aspects of site management, including: \n\n • Building maintenance, repairs and DIY tasks\n, • Health & safety compliance across the estate\n, • Security of the site including unlocking/locking, alarms and CCTV checks\n, • Contractor management for major works, servicing and external services\n, • Cleaning team supervision and monitoring standards\n, • Heating, electrical and mechanical checks\n, • Grounds maintenance, including litter picking, grass cutting and seasonal tasks\n, • Porterage duties, deliveries and room set-ups\n, • Fire safety checks, alarm testing and maintaining logs\n, • Maintaining compliance logs including asbestos, Legionella and first aid supplies\n\n You will play a key role in ensuring the school is safe, secure and well-maintained every day. \n \n What You'll Be Doing \n\n • Routine maintenance, repairs and pre-planned maintenance programmes\n, • Daily security checks, key-holding and emergency call-outs\n, • Monitoring heating, water and electrical systems\n, • Managing contractors and ensuring compliance with statutory regulations\n, • Maintaining tools, equipment and stock levels\n, • Ensuring high standards of cleanliness across the site\n, • Grounds upkeep, seasonal tasks and waste management\n, • Fire safety testing and record-keeping\n, • Supervising cleaners and SMSAs, including rotas and training\n, • Maintaining accurate logs for health & safety, asbestos, Legionella and first aid\n\n Person Requirements \n We are looking for someone who is: \n\n • Adaptable and self-motivated\n, • Able to work independently and as part of a team\n, • Well-organised and able to prioritise tasks\n, • Literate, numerate and a strong communicator\n, • Experienced in general maintenance\n, • Comfortable working in a busy school environment\n, • Aware of health & safety, COSHH, fire safety and safeguarding procedures\n, • Willing to work occasional evenings or weekends when required\n\n Desirable (not essential): \n\n • ICT skills (email, basic reporting)\n, • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent\n, • Qualified tradesperson\n\n This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS with Children's Barred List Check. \n \n Why Join Us? \n\n • A varied, hands-on role with real impact\n, • Supportive leadership and HR team\n, • Free CV review and full prep for any interviews from a dedicated consultant\n, • Opportunities for training and professional development\n, • A welcoming school community where your work truly matters\n\n If you're interested in this role, click 'apply now' to forward an up-to-date copy of your CV \n If this job isn't quite right for you, but you are looking for a new position, please contact us for a confidential discussion about your career. \n Hays Specialist Recruitment Limited acts as an employment agency for permanent recruitment and employment business for the supply of temporary workers.
