Job DescriptionDepartment Manager – Large-Scale Data Center Construction Location: Cedar Rapids, IA (On-site) Employment Type: Permanent (Direct Hire or Contract-to-Hire considered) Overview A leading national infrastructure services provider is seeking a Department Manager to oversee their scope of work on a large, multi-building data center campus in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This is a high-visibility leadership role on a project with a minimum 7-year duration, offering significant career growth and exceptional compensation for successful execution. The Department Manager will operate as the senior leader on-site, effectively running the location as its own business. This role is responsible for building and leading the team, managing all operational, financial, and customer-facing aspects of the work, and ensuring project success across multiple construction phases. Key Responsibilities • Build, lead, and manage a high-performing department team, including recruiting, hiring, training, mentoring, performance management, and corrective action when necessary, • Foster a strong site culture aligned with company values and safety standards, • Oversee workload distribution and staffing plans across multiple concurrent scopes, • Manage full P&L responsibility, including budgeting, forecasting, profitability, and cost controls, • Lead and/or support estimating and bid activities, • Manage scopes of work that may include:, • Structured cabling, • Audio-visual systems, • Security systems, • Life safety systems, • BIM and estimating functions, • Serve as the primary liaison with the customer and key stakeholders, • Ensure quality, safety, and compliance across all project activities, • Drive continuous process improvement and operational efficiency, • Hold PMs, peers, and leadership accountable to commitments and delivery, • Ensure successful project execution through turnoverRequired Qualifications, • 10+ years of experience managing complex low-voltage, security, or commercial construction operations, • Proven success managing large, multi-building construction sites (data centers strongly preferred), • 7+ years in a supervisory or managerial leadership role, • 5+ years of experience in telecommunications, low-voltage, or related construction fields, • Demonstrated experience managing:, • Budgets and profit margins, • Scheduling and staffing, • Multi-disciplinary construction scopes, • Strong customer-facing experience acting as a client liaison, • Ability to interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical documentation, • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, MS Project), • Ability to manage multiple projects and direct reports (exempt and non-exempt)Education, • High School Diploma or GED required, • Bachelor’s Degree preferredWork Environment, • On-site at a new data center construction campus, • Monday–Thursday on-site, • Remote Fridays may be possible based on project timelines and performance, • Travel within regional territory as neededCompensation & Benefits, • Base Salary: $120,000 – $140,000, • Bonus Potential: $15,000 – $20,000 per quarter (up to $80,000 annually), • Bonus metrics tied to revenue and profitability targets, • Car Allowance: $750/month, • Cell Phone Allowance: $150/month, • Total Expected Compensation: $210,000 – $230,000+Why This Role?, • Exceptional visibility on one of the largest data center builds in the region, • Opportunity to operate the site as your own business, • Clear pathway to elevated leadership roles based on performance, • Long-term project stability on a multi-year campus buildInterview Process Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
