Job Description Job Title: Cleanroom Technician Job Description The Cleanroom Technician works in a dedicated grinding room to process nutrition feed, alfalfa, and silage samples for research use. This role focuses on accurately grinding, mixing, labeling, and organizing samples for storage and laboratory testing while maintaining strict safety and cleanliness standards. The position involves repetitive manual tasks, attention to detail, and working in a warm, dusty, and noisy environment alongside a close-knit team. Responsibilities • Grind nutrition feed, alfalfa, and silage samples into bags using either an electric grinding machine or a manual food processing machine., • Operate manual mixers, similar to kitchen mixers, to grind feed, alfalfa, and silage samples according to established procedures., • Operate electric grinders, including updated grinding equipment, by inserting silage samples into the machine and using safety mallets to push samples into the device safely., • Pour material into mixers, set appropriate grinding times for each batch, and start and monitor the grinding process., • Label finished ground samples accurately and organize them for storage and subsequent laboratory testing., • Vacuum out mixers and related equipment between samples to prevent cross-contamination and maintain cleanliness., • Perform a variety of sample processing tasks for the research group, including grinding, separating, labeling, and cleaning., • Assist team members in prepping samples onto moving racks to prepare them for processing in the grinding machine area., • Maintain strict attention to detail to ensure the correct label is applied to the correct sample, despite the repetitive and monotonous nature of the work., • Follow all safety protocols, including the use of hearing protection, eye protection, and face masks as required., • Stand in one area for extended periods, bend as needed, and lift up to 40 pounds safely during the course of the shift., • Work effectively in close proximity to others, maintaining focus on tasks and collaborating respectfully with team members., • Keep the work area clean and organized, including regular cleaning of equipment and surrounding surfaces., • Participate in training and learn all aspects of the sample processing workflow to perform duties consistently and accurately. Essential Skills • High school diploma or GED., • At least 1 year of production or general labor experience., • At least 1 year of experience performing repetitive work tasks., • Ability to work in a warm and dusty area, even though the facility is temperature controlled., • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds safely., • Ability to stand for the duration of the shift and perform bending and manual labor tasks., • Comfort working in a loud, dusty, and dirty environment with appropriate safety equipment., • Ability to work in close quarters with others while maintaining focus and cooperation., • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate labeling and sample handling., • Reliability and consistency in performing repetitive tasks with high quality. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience in cleanroom or controlled environment work., • Experience in assembly, packaging, or production line operations., • Experience as a machine operator, particularly with mixers or grinders., • Comfort with general cleaning tasks related to equipment and workspace., • Ability to follow detailed instructions and standard operating procedures., • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills for working within a group of 10–15 people during busy seasons. Work Environment This position is based in a grinding room within a temperature-controlled facility that is warm, dusty, loud, and physically demanding. You work on 1st shift, Monday through Friday, with a structured schedule that includes a 30-minute lunch and 15-minute breaks. Overtime opportunities are available, with the option to work until approximately mid-afternoon several times per week. The environment involves close-quarters work alongside a team of about 10–15 people during busy seasons, requiring strong cooperation and focus. All necessary safety equipment is provided, including safety glasses, hearing protection, and dust masks, and you are expected to use them as required. The dress code includes closed-toed shoes, shorts or jeans, and a work-appropriate shirt, along with provided safety gear. The workspace is dusty and noisy, and may not be suitable for individuals with allergies or asthma due to the increased likelihood of symptoms. Smoking is not permitted on the campus. The role requires standing in one area for extended periods, frequent bending, and occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds, as well as routine cleaning of mixers and equipment between samples. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Johnston, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
