Job Description Job Title: Maintenance Electrician / Electrical Technician Job Description The Maintenance Electrician / Electrical Technician plays a key role in supporting a high-volume wheel and tire assembly manufacturing operation serving the agriculture, construction, forestry, and mining markets. In this role, you install, alter, maintain, and repair electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures, and perform skilled tasks in line with standard practices of the electrical trade. You work from oral and written instructions, including sketches and blueprints, and operate with minimal supervision, often exercising independent judgment and discretion. You may provide guidance to other workers, and you are expected to maintain a high level of confidentiality while ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant electrical equipment and systems. Responsibilities • Design and engineer electrical circuits, controls, and wiring, including electronic circuits, for new installations and upgrades to existing systems., • Develop and draw electrical schematics for equipment and systems and ensure documentation is accurate and up to date., • Write specifications for the purchase of electrical and electronic components and work with vendors to determine compatibility and cost-effective solutions., • Oversee the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical installations, ensuring work meets applicable codes and standards., • Perform hands-on electrical work, including installation, maintenance, and repair of wiring systems, fixtures, transformers, and other electrical equipment., • Locate, analyze, and correct power failures, short circuits, and other electrical-related problems in a timely and effective manner., • Apply thorough knowledge of electrical theory, principles, statutory codes, properties of materials, and operating principles of electrical equipment in daily work., • Start up and shut down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures, including lockout/tagout protocols, and comply with OSHA requirements., • Identify potentially dangerous electrical equipment or conditions, promptly notify management, and take appropriate corrective action., • Respond to emergency calls as needed, which may require night shifts and weekend work beyond regular scheduled hours., • Maintain high standards of safety, housekeeping, and quality in compliance with all relevant codes, regulations, and company policies., • Protect and ensure the confidentiality and privacy of company information encountered in the course of work., • Read, write, and interpret maintenance manuals, technical information, sketches, diagrams, and blueprints to plan and execute work effectively., • Use and care for tools and equipment of the electrical trade properly, ensuring they remain in safe and reliable working condition., • Identify, locate, and adjust defects in electrical systems and equipment to restore optimal performance., • Collaborate with team members on the third shift while also working independently under general supervision to meet maintenance and production needs., • Perform other related duties as assigned to support plant operations and continuous improvement initiatives. Essential Skills • Minimum of three years of experience working with electrical systems in an industrial environment., • Two years of technical education in electronics and/or five years of related electrical experience, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training., • Proficient knowledge of electronic and PLC technology and programming, including the ability to troubleshoot PLC-controlled systems., • Ability to logically engineer, design, and draw electrical schematics and to troubleshoot and repair electrical and electronic equipment efficiently., • Strong problem-solving skills with excellent troubleshooting and repair capabilities for electrical systems and equipment., • Ability to read, write, and interpret maintenance manuals, technical documentation, sketches, diagrams, and blueprints., • Familiarity with electrical theory, NEC (National Electrical Code) requirements, OSHA standards, and other applicable regulatory guidelines., • Experience working with voltages up to 480 volts three-phase in an industrial setting., • Considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, tools, equipment, and materials used in the electrical trade., • Knowledge of the occupational hazards associated with electrical work and the necessary safety precautions to mitigate them., • Skill in locating, analyzing, and correcting power failures, short circuits, and other electrical-related problems., • Skill in the proper use and care of electrical trade tools and test equipment., • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to work from sketches, diagrams, and blueprints., • Good written and verbal communication skills to document work and interact with team members and leadership., • Ability to work independently on a small third-shift team while exercising sound judgment and maintaining confidentiality. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Accredited technical school education or completion of an electrical apprenticeship is preferred., • Experience with enterprise asset management (EAM) and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for tracking maintenance activities., • Hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs, including PLC programming and troubleshooting, is highly beneficial., • Knowledge of applicable electrical codes, including NEC, and familiarity with OSHA standards and other governing agency requirements., • Computer skills, including the ability to use software tools for PLC programming and maintenance documentation., • Experience using AutoCAD or similar tools to create and interpret drawings of circuit boards and electrical systems., • Demonstrated ability to maintain high standards of safety, housekeeping, and quality in a manufacturing environment., • Ability to attend training, school, and seminars to stay current with the latest electrical and automation technologies., • Experience in a tire or heavy manufacturing environment is a plus. You work primarily on the third shift, from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, with the possibility of additional night and weekend work for emergency calls. The team on third shift is small, and the position requires independent judgment, confidentiality, and the ability to work both autonomously and under general supervision. Dress code includes steel-toed boots, jeans, safety glasses, and hearing protection when on the production floor, reflecting a strong focus on safety. You will regularly interact with electrical systems up to 480 volts three-phase and with PLC-controlled machinery, including Allen-Bradley platforms, within a unionized facility that emphasizes safe, quality-driven, and service-oriented operations.
