Job DescriptionPosition: Vice President for Content Strategy Location: Remote, up to 10% of expected travel for in-person team meetings and events. Deadline to apply: October 31, 2025 Who We AreThe States Forum (TSF) is a network of thinkers and practitioners whose goal is to generate and disseminate policy ideas to meaningfully improve people’s lives. TSF grounds those ideas in the American Promise found in the Declaration of Independence, across four underlying principles: effective government, fair markets, representative democracy, and personal freedom. The States Forum will offer an affirmative vision of American liberalism that also reflects what the majority of people in this country want: to make it possible for everyone to support themselves and their families throughout their lives, to protect Americans' individual rights and liberties, and to fight to create equal opportunity so that young people can do better, not worse, than their parents did. The States Forum will:Seed new ideas in the ecosystem through partnerships with universities, state-level think tanks, entrepreneurial policymakers, and other aligned entitiesInvest in qualitative research to help develop evidence-based framing around the American Promise to more effectively communicate solutionsCreate ongoing and innovative written, graphic, and video content to be disseminated through the TSF Substack and the TSF journal, our social media channels, and earned media. The States Forum will drive a national conversation around state policy, providing a platform for bold, creative ideas to meet voters where they are, reassure them that our democracy can function effectively, and inspire them to fight for our country. Position DetailsThis is a full-time, exempt, at-will position. The team currently operates remotely, with occasional in-person team meeting days. Some travel will be required. Additional evening and weekend hours are occasionally required to fulfill the duties of this position. The OpportunityThe Vice President for Content Strategy will be the creative and strategic lead for all TSF content, overseeing message development, production of various communications media products, distribution strategy, and network engagement and growth across platforms. This role will help shape the public voice of the effort, working with issue experts and the journal’s editor to translate research and policy ideas into persuasive, accessible, and compelling narratives for a diverse set of audiences, to include academics, thought leaders, state policymakers, and the press. This is a senior leadership role requiring a mix of creativity, policy and political acumen, and interest in joining a startup. Our ideal candidate has experience in shaping national- or state-level policy conversations, leading high-performing content teams, and building engaged audiences. They are a creative and talented communicator who brings both strong judgment and a bit of audacity to the role. They can tell a great story, turn complex information into compelling content, and use evidence to drive content decisions. The ideal candidate is also accountable to deadlines and a fun person to work with. What You Will Do:Principal activities will include: -Developing and executing TSF’s overall content strategy across publications, digital platforms, and events, with the goal of growing TSF’s audience and increasing engagement.-Collaborating with the editor in chief of The States Forum journal and Substack to promote content that is timely, relevant, and aligned with TSF’s mission.-Overseeing message development informed by qualitative research, ensuring ideas are communicated with clarity, resonance, and impact. Responsibilities -Work closely with TSF leadership to develop content focused on developing our target audience, including building a content calendar, and a budget for content development and distribution.-Work closely with TSF leadership to develop a voice and narrative style for TSF content.-Engage issue-expert contributors to create content that is compelling to our target audience.-Develop and manage workflows for content creation and approval across media to support an ambitious publishing, event, and social media cadence.-Review and adapt strategies based on what’s building our audience and driving engagement.-Experiment with new content and styles to reach different audiences as strategy dictates, and to more deeply engage existing audiences.-Ensure a diversity of voices is represented in content. Qualifications-10+ years of experience in marketing, digital, communications, public affairs, journalism, or related fields-Proven track record of building audiences and engaging them in public discourse-Exceptional writing and editing skills and ability to shape and hone a voice that can help build our brand-Curiosity about storytelling structure and mediums; you are an early adopter of new technology and platforms-Deep understanding of American politics and/or policymaking-Experience managing editorial teams and production workflowsHighly collaborative approach-Ability to build trust, credibility, and goodwill -Ability to independently manage time and tasks associated with a fast-paced work environment Benefits: The position offers a competitive benefits package.
