Job Description Job Description Position: Part-Time After School Teaching Assistant Reports to: Kat Murphy-Woo, Assistant Director and Megan Gallagher, Executive Director Overview The Rise School of Denver is an inclusive, non-profit early care and education center that supports young children with and without developmental delays and disabilities and their families. We are currently seeking part-time teammates for our After School Program (ASP). Ideal candidates for this position are Assistant Teachers, Speech/Occupational/Physical Therapy Assistants, Registered Behavior Technicians, and/or other applicants who desire being a part of a team that directly impacts young children and families. At Rise, ASP mirrors our stimulating, safe, and developmentally appropriate educational and therapeutic classroom opportunities. ASP teammates are offered ongoing training and support to learn evidence-based early childhood educational and therapy strategies from their other ASP teammates that include Rise’s Occupational Therapy Assistant, classroom-based Therapy Assistant, and Rise’s team of highly qualified Assistant Teachers. Duties and Responsibilities Essential Duties/Responsibilities: * Supports The Rise School philosophy that all children have the ability to learn when given appropriate encouragement and evidence-based supports * Embraces the idea that children come first at The Rise School by interacting and playing with children in activities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem solving appropriate to the developmental levels and learning styles of young children. This includes moving down to the child’s eye level and engaging with them throughout all routines in a respectful, caring manner. * Actively engages with children in the outdoor learning environment. This includes helping to ensure that all children are engaged in meaningful activities while at ASP ○ Helps to ensure the safety of all children throughout the entirety of ASP * Works with a team to perform all children’s daily care needs including diapering, feeding, medication administration, etc. * Creates and maintains professional relationships with parents and caregivers to assist with family involvement in The Rise School program * Ensures that the confidentiality of all children and families is maintained within the school and away from the school * Helps to maintain a safe, appropriate environment for all children and staff. This includes assisting with following all Colorado Shines and Child Care Licensing guidelines for safety and cleanliness * Maintains current CPR, First Aid, Universal Precautions, and Medication Administration certifications * Complies with and meets all background check requirements Other Duties/Responsibilities: * Limits conversations that do not pertain to the children’s learning to break times or times away from the children * Maintains a professional appearance including appropriate dress and grooming ○ Maintains professional, open and direct communication with all Rise staff * Maintains professional interactions with outside providers, volunteers, etc. ○ Demonstrates teamwork and cooperation * Takes initiative * Stays open and enthusiastic to change * Participates in other duties as requested Qualifications Knowledge * Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices for working with young children. Experience working with young children with and without developmental delays and/or disabilities is highly preferred Education and Experience * High School or GED completion required. * Experience working in ECE/ECSE is preferred * Experience working with young children with and without developmental delays and/or disabilities is highly preferred Skills * Physical Skills * Move around (e.g., walk) and remain upright (e.g., stand) for long periods of time ○ Play with children at their level (e.g., on ground, at table, in/around sandbox) ○ Pick up and carry children (weighing 20 to 50 pounds) when needed * Crouching/leaning over to clean tables and toys and to change children’s diapers ○ Retrieve supplies * See and hear and respond to unsafe situations very quickly * When required by government mandate and/or Rise’s illness policy, the ability to wear a face mask and, when necessary, other personal protective equipment * Other Necessary Skills * Open to receiving and responsive to coaching and feedback * Passionate about young children and inclusion for young children with developmental delays and disabilities * Patient * Creative, playful, and fun * Outgoing, high-energy * Enjoy collaborating with a team * Thrive in high-stress, fast-paced environments * May be exposed to all types of weather conditions safe for children to play in Compensation $18.81/hour - $21.00/hour depending on experience Benefits: Part-time employees do not qualify for benefits outside of Colorado Senate Bill 20-205 which requires all employers to offer paid sick leave in the amount of one hour for every 30 hours worked, to a maximum of 48 hours per year. Once team members reach full time status, Rise’s benefit package includes, for example: Insured group health and dental plans, retirement, and a generous mix of vacation, sick and holiday paid days off.
