Under close supervision, as an Architect-in–Training, participates and is trained in planning design and oversight of the design and development of a Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA) buildings, urban landscape, interior, lighting, furniture, fit-outs, renovation, demolition and development of all construction documentation required to complete a project. Remains involved with a project through completion and turn-over and plays an active role in the documentation and management process; performs other related duties. This position is also responsible for performing related duties as assigned. The salary range for this position is $61,708.00 - $77,135.00. Placement at any specific point within the stated range is not guaranteed for any candidate. Final compensation will be determined based on the selected candidate's qualifications, experience, and skills, as well as internal equity and organizational considerations. Essential functions • Provides daily design and or technical development of projects through the preparation of detailed sketches, renderings, designs and mappings, and involvement in developing construction documentation and building specifications., • Applies sound architectural and or design techniques, methodologies, and principles to complete tasks and projects on time., • Reviews all codes and project specifications to ensure the intent of PHA is met and adhered to and is completed in the best interest of the agency and the community., • Inspects and makes preliminary determination and/or recommendation of project viability, suggested scope of work necessary and required to complete a project., • Reviews and construction criteria; verifies property lines, set-backs, and height restrictions, parking requirements, land use to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local codes., • Maintains electronic and printed drafting files, tracks and maintains drafting supplies and plotting equipment., • Stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of architecture and construction management., • Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Required Knowledge of: • Principles and practices of architectural engineering., • Federal, State and City code regulations governing commercial and residential construction/rehabilitation and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act accessibility requirements., • Preparation and understanding of architectural drawings, construction techniques and processes including detail as it relates to housing, light commercial and senior housing., • Methods, procedures, and standards for maintaining architectural and construction management records., • Principles and practices of management, organization and administration., • General office practices and equipment., • Standard computer software including AutoCAD, GIS and related applications. Required Skill in: • Coordinating multiple projects work flow of multiple sites and construction contractors, • Ensuring compliance with regulations governing construction engineering and rehabilitation operations., • Reading writing and understanding architectural drawings., • Design to incorporate OSHA regulations as pertaining to construction and public housing sites., • Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software., • Effective verbal and written communication., • Interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds., • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, PHA departments, employee groups, management, and the general public. Education, Training and Experience Guidelines: Possession of a bachelor’s degree in architecture, actively pursuing licensure in Architecture; AND three (3) years of architectural and design related experience. LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: • May require possession of a valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License., • Incumbents must successfully complete all requirements to be registered and approved by the Pennsylvania Architects Licensure Board, and acquire said Licensure, within two (2) years of date of hire.
