Company DescriptionManga African Dance, Inc. (MADI) was founded in 1990 by Dr. Ramatu Afegbua-Sabbatt, a native Nigerian professional dancer, artist, storyteller, actress, teacher, and businesswoman. Dr. Afegbua-Sabbatt recognized a void in the Atlanta community, where indigenous African artists lacked sufficient opportunities to showcase dance, song, storytelling, drums, and theater to the general public. To address this need, she established MADI. MADI's high-energy repertoire draws from cultural traditions across Northern, Eastern, Western, Central, and Southern Africa. Since its inception, MADI has provided a platform for both emerging and professional dancers and choreographers to create and present African dance performances and workshops in Atlanta, nationally, and internationally. The organization serves diverse audiences, including school children, low-income families, seniors, and people with disabilities, who enjoy MADI's programs and productions. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, MADI's mission is to be a catalyst for the arts. Driven by its founder's vision, MADI preserves, presents, and instructs indigenous African culture through traditional dance, education, and performance. The organization recognizes that cultural infrastructure shapes a city's sense of community, fostering human interaction and experiences that the virtual world cannot replicate. MADI's commitment extends beyond performance; it provides diverse community members access to arts programs that combine cultural presentations with wellness components. The company's motto, "Health is Wealth: Fighting Obesity," underscores the importance of good nutrition and healthy behaviors.Manga African Dance, Inc.
