Job DescriptionGeneral Liability Attorney Title: General Liability Attorney (Tort/Employment) Location: Hybrid - Chicago, IL OR Crown Point, IN OR Indianapolis, IN Compensation: $115K-$140K (DOE) + Bonus Potential (Origination, Hours - Avg. $10K-$15K+) Position Overview We are seeking a skilled General Liability (Tort/Employment) Attorney to join our litigation team. The attorney will represent corporate and insured clients in tort and employment matters, handling all phases of litigation from intake through trial and appeal where necessary. The role requires strong legal analysis, courtroom advocacy, client counseling, and collaboration with claims teams and insurers to achieve favorable resolutions while managing an efficient caseload. Key Responsibilities • Manage a diverse caseload of general liability, tort, and employment-related matters, including defense of personal injury, premises liability, and workplace claims., • Conduct factual and legal investigations, draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and responses, and handle all aspects of pretrial litigation., • Develop case strategy in collaboration with clients, claims professionals, and co-counsel to achieve cost-effective outcomes, including negotiation and settlement efforts., • Represent clients in depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials with persuasive advocacy and courtroom presence., • Advise insurers and corporate clients on coverage issues, indemnity, risk allocation, and litigation exposure assessments., • Prepare and respond to dispositive motions, appellate briefs, and related filings when necessary., • Maintain detailed case budgets, time records, and compliance with billing and reporting requirements; supervise paralegals and junior attorneys as needed., • Stay current on relevant statutory developments and case law in tort, employment, and labor law across Indiana and Illinois; implement best practices to reduce client liability., • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active admission to practice in Indiana or Illinois (or eligibility with reciprocity/limited admission)., • 5+ years of insurance defense experience, with substantive exposure to tort and employment/labor law matters, • Proven trial and courtroom experience, including taking and defending depositions and arguing motions., • Demonstrated ability to draft high-quality pleadings, motions, discovery, and settlement documents under tight deadlines., • Strong knowledge of liability and insurance coverage principles, tort law, employment law, and applicable procedural rules., • Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills; client-focused approach and effective negotiation skills., • Ability to manage multiple matters concurrently, prioritize workload, and meet billing and firm productivity expectations., • Comfort working collaboratively with claims professionals, adjusters, and cross-functional teams; experience in mentoring or supervising junior staff is a plus., • Base Salary: $115K-$140K (DOE), • Bonus Potential (Origination, Hours - Avg. $10K-$15K+), • Medical, Vision, Dental, • 401k, • Hybrid schedule (flexible, 2 days in office) - For this position, you must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship for a non-immigrant visa.
