Job DescriptionDescription: Location(s): Early Learning Academies Reports To: ELA Director of Program Development EEO Classification: Service Workers Job Type: Hourly; Non-Exempt Summary: Our Early Learning Academy (ELA) Planning Float is responsible for rotating weekly through each ELA classroom to ensure that all Lead Teachers have dedicated office time to develop lesson plans and complete their administrative tasks. The ELA Planning Float will assume the role of Lead Teacher while covering the classroom during planning time and is responsible for maintaining order of the classroom. This position will also oversee the staff assigned to that room while teaching and engaging in activities with the children in our Early Learning Academy. Essential Job Functions: • Act in the role of Lead Teacher by following lesson plans, engaging in activities and management of the classroom established by the Lead Teacher for their specific classroom., • Teach and engage in age-appropriate activities based on the ages and stages of development of children in the classroom., • Provide direction to support staff as needed., • Provide various materials and resources for children designed to promote physical, mental, and social development such as games, art, crafts, music, and storytelling., • Assist with diapering and potty training, and bathroom accidents., • Regulate rest periods and nap schedules., • Help prepare and serve nutritionally balanced meals and snacks for children., • Observe and monitor children’s play activities to maintain a safe environment., • Sanitize toys and play equipment as needed., • Perform light housekeeping duties, such as laundry, cleaning, and changing of linens as needed., • Supervise and facilitate play, large and/or small group activities, gym activities, outside time, while maintaining safety of children., • Keep records for individual children, including daily observations and information about activities, meals served, and medications administered., • Use of electronic devices for daily reporting., • Assist in bus loading and unloading during field trips., • Ensure the kids we serve are learning positive behaviors, provide guidance, and enforce appropriate discipline when needed., • Document problems, issues, or suspicious behavior, and report all incidents to the ELA Director and Director of Early Program Development., • Keep knowledge of and administer first aid according to prescribed procedures and notify emergency medical personnel when necessary., • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required., • Welcome new children to activities, introduce them to other children, explain the facility rules, and encourage participation., • Responsible for all other duties and tasks as assigned by the ELA Director of Program Development. Requirements: Education and Experience Requirements: • Previous experience teaching in an Early Childhood classroom or working knowledge of Early Childhood Development standards is preferred., • Experience working with children and youth is preferred., • A valid CPR Certification or the ability to obtain and maintain CPR certification within 90 days of employment is required. The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire does provide this training for those not certified. Skills and Knowledge Requirements: • Leadership skills, including problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities, • Must be reliable with good attendance and consistency to be on time and have time management., • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills., • Ability to take initiative, prioritize duties, work independently, and as part of a team., • Ability to remain flexible and adaptable to change., • Strong understanding of child development theories and practices, as well as child program development, implementation, and evaluation. Work Environment and Physical Requirements: • Constant hearing, hand-eye coordination, mind-eye coordination., • Intermittent speaking, standing, walking, kneeling, lifting, reaching, low-level activity, and squatting., • Potential exposure to communicable diseases., • Frequent lifting of objects under 20 pounds, and occasional lifting of items up to 75 pounds., • Indoor with minimal outdoor work; extreme temperature in the summer and winter can be expected.
