Job DescriptionJob Title: Framing Carpenter – Lead / Production Supervisor Job Description This role oversees the framing and production of high-end homes from a leadership perspective, ensuring plans are accurate, quality standards are met, and the team works efficiently from start to finish. The position combines hands-on framing expertise with supervisory responsibilities, including training, coaching, and coordinating multiple work areas to deliver well-built homes on schedule. Responsibilities • Review construction plans and blueprints each morning to verify accuracy and clarify any discrepancies before work begins., • Communicate and translate plans into clear, actionable instructions for the production team., • Lead and manage approximately five work spaces, working in partnership with a Rough Lead and a Finish Lead, with each leader responsible for their side of the line., • Oversee the entire production line for high-end homes, maintaining strict quality standards at every stage of construction., • Provide day-to-day supervision of leads and their teams, focusing on oversight rather than heavy physical labor while remaining ready to jump in hands-on when needed., • Train and mentor team members on proper framing, carpentry, and finishing techniques, ensuring work is performed correctly and consistently., • Monitor workmanship and enforce quality standards to minimize warranty issues and rework., • Identify and eliminate inefficiencies in the building process, applying continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles., • Ensure that all phases of construction, from tape and texture through completion, stay on schedule and meet production targets., • Coordinate workflow and resources across multiple work areas to support the goal of building homes from start to finish in a highly efficient timeframe., • Collaborate with other members of the leadership team to refine processes as the operation scales from a small team to a larger, high-volume environment., • Support a safe, organized, and productive work area within the hoop building environment.Essential Skills, • Proven experience as a framing carpenter with the ability to build homes from start to finish., • Strong supervisory and leadership skills with experience overseeing multiple work areas or teams., • Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints and construction plans., • Demonstrated experience training and teaching others each step of the building process., • Solid understanding of quality standards for high-end residential construction., • Effective communication skills to clearly convey plans, expectations, and feedback to the team., • Ability to balance oversight responsibilities with hands-on work when necessary., • Strong focus on efficiency, continuous improvement, and meeting production schedules., • Experience working within a production or manufacturing-style environment for homebuilding.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Background in production, supervision, and lean manufacturing practices., • Experience applying continuous improvement methods to streamline construction processes., • Proven ability to manage and coach a team of leads and craftspeople in a fast-paced setting., • Comfort working in a growing operation that is ramping up staff and output over time., • Ability to maintain high quality while working toward aggressive build-time goals., • Strong problem-solving skills to identify inefficiencies and implement practical solutions.Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a hoop building where homes are constructed under shelter from wind and rain, though the space is not fully temperature controlled. Work hours typically run from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with some fluctuation depending on the season. You will start by working with a small team building a few spec homes, focusing on identifying and resolving inefficiencies before the operation ramps up to higher volume. The environment is production-oriented, with multiple work spaces operating simultaneously and a clear focus on quality, schedule adherence, and continuous improvement throughout the homebuilding process. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sioux Falls, SD. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $30.00/hr.
