SUMMARY: The Custodian is responsible for maintaining clean, safe, welcoming, and event-ready facilities at Active Generations. In addition to routine custodial responsibilities, this position plays an important role in preparing spaces for programs, meetings, rentals, and special events through room setup, teardown, and resets. The Custodian works collaboratively with team members across the organization and provides professional and courteous service to members, guests, volunteers, renters, and community partners. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Perform routine custodial duties throughout the facility, including cleaning restrooms, common areas, offices, meeting rooms, program spaces, dining areas, and other assigned spaces., • Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, clean glass and surfaces, and clean and sanitize high-touch areas., • Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms and other designated areas., • Empty trash and recycling and dispose of materials appropriately., • Monitor facility cleanliness throughout the workday and promptly address spills, debris, and other immediate cleaning needs., • Set up and tear down rooms for meetings, programs, classes, rentals, special events, and other activities according to schedules, room layouts, and provided instructions., • Arrange and move tables, chairs, podiums, signage, and other event equipment and supplies., • Ensure event and program spaces are clean, organized, appropriately arranged, and ready for use prior to scheduled activities., • Complete timely room resets following programs and events to prepare spaces for upcoming activities., • Review daily and upcoming schedules to anticipate cleaning, setup, teardown, and facility needs., • Assist members, guests, renters, volunteers, and team members with reasonable facility and event-related needs., • Maintain appropriate levels of custodial supplies and communicate replenishment needs to the appropriate team member., • Properly use, clean, maintain, and store custodial tools, equipment, cleaning products, and supplies., • Follow established safety procedures for the handling and use of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and personal protective equipment., • Assist with light facility tasks as assigned and identify and report maintenance needs, damaged property, equipment concerns, or potential safety hazards., • Help maintain safe and accessible entrances, walkways, exits, and event spaces, including assisting with seasonal facility needs as assigned., • Communicate event setup concerns, scheduling conflicts, damages, safety concerns, or facility needs to the appropriate team member in a timely manner., • Maintain flexibility and adjust priorities based on changing event schedules, facility needs, and organizational activities., • Maintain a professional, respectful, and service-oriented presence when interacting with members, guests, volunteers, renters, vendors, and team members. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: • High School diploma or equivalent preferred., • Previous experience in custodial services, facilities, hospitality, event setup, maintenance, or a related environment is preferred., • Experience working in a community center, senior services organization, event venue, hospitality setting, or other public-facing environment is beneficial. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Must possess knowledge of basic custodial practices, cleaning methods, safe handling of cleaning products, and general workplace safety. The position requires strong attention to detail; the ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, event schedules, and room setup diagrams; and the ability to organize and prioritize work independently while adjusting to changing facility and event needs. The individual must be able to safely use custodial tools and equipment, recognize and appropriately report maintenance and safety concerns, and communicate effectively and professionally with team members, members, volunteers, renters, vendors, and guests. Dependability, initiative, time management, good judgment, teamwork, and a commitment to maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming facilities are essential to success in this position. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS: • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday., • Frequently bend, stoop, squat, kneel, reach, push, pull, twist, and perform repetitive movements., • Regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently., • Push, pull, move, and arrange tables, chairs, event equipment, custodial equipment, and supplies., • Use assistance or appropriate equipment when moving heavier or awkward items., • Safely operate standard custodial tools, cleaning equipment, and facility equipment., • Climb stairs and step stools or ladders as necessary to complete assigned duties., • Maintain sufficient mobility, balance, strength, and dexterity to safely perform cleaning, event setup, and facility-related duties., • Work on a variety of floor surfaces, including areas that may occasionally be wet or slippery., • Perform repetitive physical tasks associated with cleaning, room setup, and facility upkeep. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is primarily performed indoors throughout Active Generations facilities, including offices, common areas, dining areas, restrooms, storage areas, and program spaces, with outdoor work related to facility and seasonal needs. The employee may be exposed to cleaning chemicals, dust, odors, wet or slippery surfaces, moderate noise levels, and varying temperatures. The position requires frequent movement throughout the facility and regular interaction with members, guests, volunteers, renters, vendors, and team members. Work hours may vary based on operational and event needs and may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, or occasional holidays.
