Job Description Augustana University invites applications for the position of Science Equipment Repair Technician. This full-time support staff position is responsible for the repair, maintenance, fabrication, and construction of scientific equipment and custom projects supporting the university’s science and engineering programs. The successful candidate will also assist with building systems and technical operations within the Froiland Science Center. Primary responsibilities include: • Repairing and maintaining a wide variety of scientific equipment and instruments used within the Froiland Science Center, • Designing and fabricating custom electro/mechanical equipment projects, • Assisting with building-related computer equipment and systems, including door access systems, lighting software, classroom computers, projectors, and related technology, • Supporting the brewing and fermentation program with equipment upkeep, cleaning, and sterilization, • Researching and procuring replacement parts and materials within budget, • Receiving and distributing building deliveries, • Assisting with machine shop and fabrication projects for Life Sciences, Pure and Applied Sciences, and Engineering programs, • Supporting building maintenance and room set-up/tear-down needs as time permits Required qualifications include: • Associate degree in electronics or a related field, or equivalent training, highly desirable, • Basic knowledge of analog and digital electronics, • Experience repairing, modifying, or building scientific equipment preferred, • Ability to read schematics and troubleshoot electronic and mechanical systems, • Experience using tools and equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, hand and power tools, mill, lathe, welder, band saw, table saw, and router, • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills, • Ability to work independently and effectively prioritize multiple projects in a hands-on technical environment, • Demonstrated proficiency with computers, software applications, and common audiovisual technologies, with the ability to troubleshoot and provide basic support for equipment such as projectors, presentation systems, and related building technologies. The successful candidate must possess strong technical troubleshooting abilities and enjoy solving challenging problems in a collaborative academic environment. Interacting with students, faculty, staff, and external vendors from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, along with a deep appreciation for and respect for academic values and culture, must be a top priority for the successful candidate.
