Job DescriptionSales Manager – Independent Channel Location: Boulder, CO / Remote Department: Sales Reports to: Director of Sales Type: Full-timeOverview SumUp is seeking a strategic, hands-on Sales Manager to scale a national network of independent agents primarily focused on selling SumUp Growth POS. You'll lead recruitment and enablement of top-tier agents, drive rigorous pipeline execution, and deliver predictable growth across SMB verticals like retail, quick-serve restaurants, and services. This role blends field coaching with data-driven leadership—and a passion for helping merchants run and grow their business with an intuitive POS, transparent pricing, and lightning-fast onboarding. Key Responsibilities • Channel Leadership & Growth, • Build and lead a high-performing network of independent agents selling SumUp Growth POS and payments., • Partner with leadership and marketing to create territory coverage plans, launch playbooks, and quarterly growth targets by region/agent., • Forecast bookings, activations, and processing volume tied to Growth POS deployments., • Recruiting & Onboarding, • Direct recruitment efforts to source, vet, and sign independent agents with proven SMB POS experience., • Ensure new agents ramp quickly, including certification on Growth POS, demo excellence, and acquisition readiness., • Enablement & Training, • Support continued training of agents on Growth POS features: inventory and modifiers, tables/tabs, tipping, multi-location, employee roles/permissions, analytics, receipts, discounts, features, and hardware bundles (register, printer, cash drawer, barcode scanner)., • Provide competitive positioning vs. legacy POS and other SMB solutions; equip agents with demo scripts, ROI calculators, and objection handling., • Performance Management, • Track core KPIs: demos held, proposals issued, approved merchants, activations, time-to-live, Growth POS attachment rate, average ticket, processing volume, churn., • Run weekly pipeline reviews and 1:1 coaching; implement improvement plans., • Launch quarterly incentives, spiffs, and certification milestones aligned to activations and net revenue., • Sales Operations & Process, • Enforce CRM hygiene and forecast accuracy; standardize stage definitions for POS-led deals., • Optimize time-to-activation., • Partner with Support and Risk to pre-empt escalations and ensure smooth go-lives., • Pricing & Deal Strategy, • Guide agents on packaging Growth POS: hardware bundles, software tiers, and payments pricing., • Structure merchant proposals balancing value and margin; oversee approvals on exceptions., • Educate on surcharging/cash discount options where compliant, ensuring transparent merchant communication., • Compliance & Risk, • Uphold card brand rules and PCI DSS; reinforce ethical selling and clear disclosures., • Coordinate with Underwriting/Risk to maintain portfolio quality and minimize chargebacks and attrition., • Ensure adherence to SumUp policies and brand guidelines across all agent interactions., • Cross-Functional Collaboration, • Feed market insights to Product and Marketing to refine Growth POS roadmap, bundles, and messaging., • Partner with Enablement for content updates and with Finance on agent residuals/overrides., • Coordinate with Operations on inventory, shipping SLAs, and install support.Qualifications, • 5–7+ years in payments/POS sales; 2–3+ years leading independent agents or ISO channels., • Deep knowledge of SMB POS workflows (retail/quick-serve restaurants/services), payments fundamentals, and underwriting., • Track record of scaling distributed sales teams and hitting activation/volume targets., • Skilled in CRM, pipeline management, and sales analytics; strong negotiation and coaching chops., • Clear, customer-centric communicator who can run world-class demos and enable others to do the same., • Willingness to travel up to 30% for recruiting, training, and in-market support.Success Metrics, • Net-new Growth POS activations per month/quarter, • Approval-to-activation conversion and time-to-activation, • Processing volume growth, average margin, and portfolio health, • Agent ramp speed, productivity distribution, and retention, • Compliance KPIs (chargebacks, declines, disclosure adherence)Compensation & Benefits, • Competitive base salary ($170K OTE), • Health, dental, vision; retirement plan Business owners are at the heart of everything we do at SumUp, which is why we create powerful, easy-to-use financial solutions to help them.
