Job Description Job Title: Field Installation Technician Travel Position Job Description This role focuses on assembling and installing brand-new shrink sleeve and steam wrap packaging machinery in a clean, climate-controlled shop environment before transitioning into field installation work. You will build and wire complex packaging equipment, test it to specific quality standards, and later support installations at customer sites as part of a growing machine design and installation division. Responsibilities • Assemble shrink sleeve and steam wrap machines using a variety of hand and battery-operated tools provided on site., • Install and assemble conveyors as part of complete packaging machine systems., • Perform wiring of emergency stop circuits and other safety-related electrical components., • Carry out 3-phase 480V wiring for motors and other machine components in accordance with electrical standards., • Install and align motors and related drive components on new machinery., • Install hydraulic lines and related components on packaging equipment., • Read and work from electrical schematics for machine and PLC wiring, with support and training from the engineering team as needed., • Assist with PLC-related tasks such as basic troubleshooting and programming support for machine installation and commissioning., • Assemble and fit mechanical components, frames, and subassemblies to complete machine builds., • Test assembled machines on site to ensure they meet specific quality control requirements before shipment., • Support field installation activities after the initial 6–12 months in the shop, including setting up, aligning, and commissioning equipment at customer locations., • Use packaging and machine installation knowledge to ensure equipment runs reliably and meets performance expectations., • Collaborate closely with engineering, maintenance, and service teams to resolve mechanical, electrical, and control issues during assembly and installation., • Follow all safety procedures while working with electrical systems, hydraulics, and moving machinery., • Hands-on experience in machine assembly, mechanical maintenance, or industrial equipment installation., • Experience in a service technician, installation, mechanical technician, or maintenance technician role., • Ability to assemble machinery using various hand tools and battery-operated drills., • Experience with 3-phase 480V wiring and industrial electrical work., • Ability to wire emergency stops and other safety circuits on machinery., • Experience installing motors, hydraulic lines, and mechanical components on equipment., • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics or willingness to learn with on-site training from engineering., • Familiarity with packaging machinery, machine installation, or related industrial equipment., • Basic exposure to PLC troubleshooting and programming in an industrial environment., • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills when working with complex machinery., • Previous experience in a service technician or installation department is highly beneficial., • Experience as a mechanical or maintenance technician in an industrial or manufacturing setting., • Experience in packaging equipment, machine design, or automated production lines., • Comfort working with both mechanical and electrical aspects of industrial machinery., • Interest in future career progression into a field service technician role with significant travel opportunities. Work Environment You work in a brand-new, climate-controlled plant in Jeffersonville, IN, primarily within the machine design and installation division alongside other packaging-related operations. The environment is a clean shop focused on the assembly and testing of brand-new shrink sleeve and steam wrap machinery, conveyors, and related systems. You use company-supplied hand tools and battery-operated drills while working with electrical systems, PLCs, motors, and hydraulic lines. The role begins in the shop for approximately 6–12 months, then transitions into field work where you travel to customer sites to install and commission equipment. The position involves substantial overtime opportunities, and you operate in a professional industrial setting with a focus on safety, organization, and high-quality workmanship.
