We're seeking an experienced Lead Machinist to spearhead our manufacturing operations and accelerate hardware prototyping for our innovative solar energy systems. You'll be responsible for setting up, operating, and optimizing a diverse range of manufacturing equipment while leading our transition from prototype to production-ready hardware. This is a hands-on leadership role perfect for a skilled machinist who thrives in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment. This position is based at our headquarters in Miami, FL. There is no relocation assistance available for this role. Only local candidates will be considered. Key Responsibilities • Manufacturing Operations Leadership, • Set up, calibrate, and operate CNC machines, mills, lathes, and drilling equipment for precision component manufacturing, • Develop and optimize machining processes to improve quality, efficiency, and throughput, • Create and maintain detailed work instructions, setup sheets, and quality standards, • Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex manufacturing challenges and equipment issues, • Implement lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives, • Rapid Prototyping & Development Support, • Collaborate closely with engineering teams to rapidly iterate on hardware designs, • Translate CAD drawings and technical specifications into manufacturable components, • Support design for manufacturing (DFM) reviews and provide manufacturing feasibility input, • Execute quick-turn prototyping projects to accelerate product development cycles, • Maintain detailed documentation of prototype builds and lessons learned, • Multi-Disciplinary Manufacturing, • Operate and maintain 3D printing systems for rapid prototyping and tooling applications, • Conduct quality inspections using precision measurement tools and equipment, • Handle materials selection and procurement for manufacturing projects, • Equipment Management & Optimization, • Maintain, calibrate, and perform preventive maintenance on all manufacturing equipment, • Evaluate and recommend new equipment purchases to expand manufacturing capabilities, • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all manufacturing processes, • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain clean, organized work environment, • Train and mentor junior machinists and manufacturing technicians, • Cross-Functional Collaboration, • Partner with R&D teams to understand design intent and manufacturing requirements, • Work with supply chain to optimize material sourcing and vendor relationships, • Support quality assurance with process validation and capability studies, • Coordinate with project managers on manufacturing timelines and deliverablesRequired Qualifications, • 7+ years of experience in precision machining and manufacturing operations, • Proficiency with CNC programming, setup, and operation (Haas, Mazak, or similar platforms), • Advanced skills in manual machining including mill, lathe, and drilling operations', • Hands-on experience with 3D printing technologies (FDM, SLA, metal printing preferred), • Electrical assembly skills including PCB handling, soldering, and basic electronics, • Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings, GD&T, and specifications, • Experience with precision measurement tools (CMM, calipers, micrometers, gauges), • Knowledge of manufacturing materials including metals, plastics, and composites, • Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitudePreferred Qualifications, • Experience in cleantech, renewable energy, or high-tech hardware manufacturing, • Background in prototype-to-production transitions and scaling manufacturing processes, • Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar), • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies, • Experience with automated manufacturing systems and robotics integration, • Understanding of regulatory compliance and quality management systems (ISO 9001), • Leadership experience in manufacturing or technical environments, • Machining: CNC mills, lathes, EDM, surface grinders, drill presses, • 3D Printing: FDM, SLA, metal printing, post-processing, • Measurement: CMM, optical comparators, precision gauges, • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods, • Manual dexterity and visual acuity for precision work, • Comfortable working with machinery and power tools We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses.
