Job Description Staff Accountant National Insurance Defense Law Firm The Opportunity: We are a national, multi-state insurance defense litigation firm with approximately 300 employees seeking a Staff Accountant to join our accounting team in our Miami-Brickell office! Position Summary: The Staff Accountant supports the financial operations of the law firm by maintaining accurate financial records, managing billing and client trust accounts, and ensuring compliance with legal and accounting standards. This role works closely with attorneys, billing staff, and management to support financial reporting and day-to-day accounting functions. Key Responsibilities: • Maintain general ledger and prepare journal entries, • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, • Perform bank and account reconciliations, including operating and trust accounts (IOLTA), • Support client billing processes, including reviewing invoices and tracking billable expenses, • Monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable, including client collections, • Ensure compliance with trust accounting regulations and firm policies, • Prepare financial reports, including profit and loss statements and balance sheets, • Assist with external audits and tax preparation, • Track retainers and ensure proper allocation of client funds, • Analyze financial data and identify discrepancies or variances Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field, • 2–4 years of accounting experience (law firm or professional services preferred), • Knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP), • Familiarity with legal billing systems and trust accounting practices, • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software Preferred Qualifications: • Experience with legal/accounting software (e.g., Clio, Elite, Aderant, or QuickBooks), • CPA certification or progress toward certification, • Experience with trust account compliance and reporting Skills: • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, • Understanding of legal billing and timekeeping processes, • Excellent organizational and time management skills, • Ability to handle confidential financial and client information, • Office or work setting within a professional law firm, • Direct collaboration and strategic partnership with executive leadership, • Salary range depending on depth and years of experience, • Medical Insurance – Currently provided by Cigna Healthcare with multiple plans to choose from; partially paid for by the company; all outpatient mental health services are free of charge with no copays, • Optional Dental & Vision Insurance, • Optional Voluntary Life and Disability Insurance, • Optional Voluntary Accident Insurance, • Optional Critical Illness Insurance, • Optional Cancer Insurance, • Optional Hospitalization Insurance, • Optional Health Savings Account, • Optional Flexible Spending Account, • 401k after one calendar year of employment, • Paid time off (PTO) to support your overall well-being Lydecker is an AV-rated full-service law firm with over 140 attorneys Nationwide!
