GravitHy is an innovative French company born with a global ambition to decarbonize the steel industry. Our goal is to produce large-scale, low-carbon green Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) using renewable and low-emission hydrogen. We aim to build, own, and operate our first green iron plant in southern France (2.2B€ Capex) , with the intention of replicating this model across Europe and beyond. About the role: GravitHy is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer Manager. The Mechanical Engineer Manager plays a crucial role in our projects and in the company, overseeing, validating, and sharing expertise on various mechanical aspects related to the equipment used in our innovative project to decarbonize iron production using green hydrogen. This role is essential during the basic and detailed engineering phases of project execution, particularly regarding rotating equipment, vessels (pressurized and non-pressurized), refractories, duct geometry, and the structural and stress aspects of piping. The Mechanical Engineer will guide team members and contribute to the successful execution of the project, also taking part in procurement, construction, commissioning, and start-up activities. Key responsibilities - Engineering: • Develop the engineering design basis for the assigned project in line with the company’s sustainability objectives., • Establish the design basis for vessels, structural components, piping, and refractories., • Review equipment data sheets provided by third parties (EPCM and/or OEM) to ensure compliance with safety standards and process requirements., • Identify potential improvements in third-party (EPCM and/or OEM) equipment specifications., • Develop a mechanical maintenance philosophy for future facilities, prioritizing safety and sustainability., • Provide technical input for permitting and modeling activities requested by project management (permitting activities may include construction, environmental impact assessment, risk and zoning identification, while modeling activities may involve evaluating the efficiency of rotating equipment)., • Review, monitor, verify, and approve mechanical engineering deliverables generated by third parties during the project, ensuring alignment with technical objectives and company standards., • Collaborate with the project team on technical issues with potential OEM suppliers and participate in engineering studies such as HAZID/HAZOP., • Assist in estimating costs related to the supply, assembly, and commissioning of critical equipment and associated facilities. Main duties & responsibilities – Project: • Support project management in procurement activities with potential OEM suppliers, providing technical expertise as required., • Collaborate with project management and third parties during visits to potential OEM suppliers’ facilities, providing technical feedback within the Mechanical Engineer’s area of expertise., • Frequent site visits are expected given the nature of the project., • When necessary, accompany the Project Manager and designated team members on international visits to resolve sensitive technical issues with OEM suppliers., • Participate in and supervise, together with project management, the construction, commissioning, and start-up phases, focusing on mechanical components and equipment requiring on-site mechanical engineering expertise., • Produce documentation for studies, analyses, and designs (diagrams, layouts, specifications) for reference and training purposes., • Report activities according to the schedules and deliverables defined by the project and the direct supervisor., • Adhere to the Quality Management System for all internally generated documentation., • Capitalize on feedback (REX sheets). Required skills & knowledge: • Industrial Experience: Expertise in the oil & gas, fertilizer/ammonia, or steelmaking sectors (DRI or blast furnace) related to mechanical equipment, ducts, vessels, and piping., • Technical Competence: Ability to read, understand, explain, and interpret engineering deliverables related to mechanical equipment, ducts/refractories, piping, and structural aspects., • Analytical Skills: Proficiency in analyzing qualitative and quantitative process data and providing troubleshooting diagnostics., • Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively within a project team., • Technical Writing: Skill in drafting clear, accurate deliverables, including specifications and technical documents., • Language Proficiency: Fluent written and spoken English Additional skills: • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English and French), with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders., • Proactivity: Ability to proactively suggest improvements to work and operational methods., • Innovation-Oriented: Strong inclination toward innovation and creative problem-solving., • Teamwork: Effectiveness in cross-functional teams, openness to feedback, and ability to support decision-making processes.
