Quantity Surveyor\nLocation: Coventry, UK (Head Office)\nReports to: Senior Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager\nContract: Full-time, Permanent\n\nSalary: £55k + £5k Car Allowance \n\nPosition Overview:\n\nA client we are currently working with is a well-established and fast-growing civil engineering and utilities contractor, specialising in infrastructure, reinstatement, and utility works across both public and private sectors. They have built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality, cost-effective solutions with a strong focus on safety, technical expertise, and client satisfaction.\n\nThey are currently seeking an experienced and commercially astute Quantity Surveyor to oversee the financial and contractual aspects of utility and civil engineering projects, including excavation, ducting, electrical cabling, reinstatement, and associated infrastructure works across highways and private developments.\nThe role will involve cost management, subcontractor administration, contract compliance, and commercial reporting across multiple live projects.\n\nScope of the Role:\n\nAs a Quantity Surveyor, you will work closely with the commercial team, project managers, site teams, and clients to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, profitably, and in line with contractual requirements. You will take ownership of commercial processes from project commencement through to final account settlement, while also supporting tendering and business development activities.\nThis role requires strong commercial awareness, contractual knowledge, and the ability to manage costs and risks across a portfolio of utility and civil engineering works.\n\nHow You'll Succeed:\n\nManaging the preparation and submission of interim valuations and applications for payment.\nAdministering subcontractor accounts, including payments, variations, and final accounts.\nMonitoring project costs, forecasting, and reporting financial performance.\nIdentifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.\nProducing accurate cost reports and cash flow forecasts.\nReviewing drawings, specifications, and scope changes to assess commercial impact.\nManaging compensation events, variations, and contractual change control.\nSupporting procurement activities and negotiating with subcontractors and suppliers.\nCollaborating with operational teams to ensure accurate recording and valuation of completed works.\nAssisting with tender preparation, pricing exercises, and commercial input for future projects.\nEnsuring commercial records and documentation are maintained in line with company procedures and audit requirements.\nSupporting successful project delivery through proactive commercial management and stakeholder communication.Key Responsibilities:\n\nCommercial & Financial Management\nManage the commercial administration of projects from start to completion.\nPrepare, submit, and agree interim valuations and final accounts.\nMonitor project budgets and identify cost overruns or commercial risks.\nProduce monthly cost value reconciliations (CVRs) and commercial reports.\nAssess and process subcontractor applications and payments.\nManage and negotiate variations, compensation events, and contractual claims.\nEnsure compliance with contractual obligations and company procedures.\nEstimating & Pre-Contract Support\nSupport the preparation of tenders, quotations, and pricing submissions.\nInterpret design drawings and specifications to prepare take-offs and cost estimates.\nReview subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure best value procurement.\nContribute to risk assessments, pricing assumptions, and tender clarifications.\nAssist in identifying value engineering opportunities and cost-saving initiatives.\nSite Support & Project Coordination\nAttend site visits and progress meetings to monitor project delivery and commercial performance.\nWork closely with site managers and engineers to verify completed works and productivity.\nEnsure accurate records of site instructions, delays, variations, and scope changes are maintained.\nSupport operational teams with commercial advice and contractual guidance.\nBuild and maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.What It Takes:\n\nProven experience in quantity surveying within civil engineering, utilities, or infrastructure projects.\nStrong commercial awareness and understanding of project cost control.\nAbility to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.\nExcellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.\nStrong analytical and problem-solving abilities.\nAbility to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.\nStrong organisational skills with high attention to detail.\nProficient in Microsoft Excel and commercial management software.Qualifications:\nEssential:\n\nDegree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.\nFull UK Driving Licence.\nExperience managing utility and civil engineering projects involving excavation, ducting, reinstatement, or infrastructure works.\nGood understanding of NEC or similar forms of contract.Desirable:\n\nMembership or working towards membership of RICS or a relevant professional body.\nFamiliarity with NRSWA and highway reinstatement standards.\nKnowledge of CDM regulations and public infrastructure projects.\nExperience in managing multiple frameworks or utility contracts.Please apply here or send your CV over to (url removed)
