Location: Belfast, Northern Ireland | Hours: 37 hrs/week, rotating shifts (2 weeks days / 2 weeks nights, 12-hr shifts) | Rate: £23.37/hr PAYE (~£45k p.a.) About the Role Join a public sector Port Health team as a qualified Environmental Health Officer (EHO). You’ll protect public health through inspections, investigations, and enforcement of environmental health legislation, focusing on Brexit-related port operations. This temporary role requires flexible day/night shift working. Key Responsibilities • Conduct inspections of premises, vessels, vehicles, land, and aircraft., • Assess risks, complete health and safety evaluations, and enforce compliance., • Review technical reports and provide recommendations., • Serve notices, prepare cases, and attend public hearings as an authorised officer., • Conduct sampling, investigations, and maintain accurate IT records., • Deliver health education, engage with the community, and liaise with external partners., • Lead or support departmental projects and initiatives., • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to colleagues and trainees., • Participate in emergency response and out-of-hours duties. Candidate Requirements Essential Qualifications & Licences: • Diploma in Environmental Health (CIEH) or equivalent recognised by the EHRB, • Full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle Experience & Skills: • Minimum 1–2 years’ experience as an EHO or similar public health role, • Knowledge of environmental health legislation and enforcement procedures, • Strong report writing and communication skills, • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and exercise judgment in enforcement, • Teamwork, decision-making, and customer engagement skills, • Competent in IT and relevant environmental health software
