Job Overview – SHEQ Manager (Maternity Cover) Vital Power Group are seeking a proactive, detail-driven SHEQ Manager to lead safety, health, environmental, and quality compliance across our dynamic operations. This role is central to ensuring audit readiness, regulatory alignment, and operational clarity across depots, mobile engineering teams, and subcontractor activities. This role is field and hybrid-based, working across either our Chester or Coventry sites. The position requires regular travel to multiple locations, including customer sites, field operations, and depots, in line with business requirements. Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 08:30–17:00. This position is offered as an initial 12-month maternity cover, with the potential for further opportunities within the business. Key Responsibilities and Duties • Develop, implement, and maintain all SHEQ systems, policies, procedures, and risk assessments, ensuring full version control and compliance with legislation. Manage all documentation across the IMS and ISSOSMART platforms., • Act as the primary point of contact for all SHEQ-related queries, inspections, incidents, and site responses across all company locations., • Lead the recording, investigation, and corrective action process for all accidents, incidents, and near misses, ensuring accurate reporting and implementation of improvements., • Review and update RAMS and site-specific documentation for specialist and high-risk works, ensuring mobilisation packs, handover documents, and project safety plans are accurate and compliant., • Ensure daily site and depot safety checks (housekeeping, access, welfare, and safety standards) are completed and actioned where required., • Manage and maintain ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001-aligned procedures, including preparation for and leadership of all internal and external audits. Maintain SSIP accreditations and other compliance portals., • Conduct internal inspections, audits, and compliance checks, escalating non-conformances and driving continuous SHEQ improvements across all sites., • Deliver SHEQ training, including toolbox talks, safety briefings, competency assessments, training matrices, and cultural improvement initiatives., • Prepare SHEQ elements of tenders, PQQs, and customer compliance documentation, ensuring timely and accurate submission., • Attend internal and external SHEQ meetings, including board meetings, managers’ meetings, supervisors’ meetings, and client meetings as required., • Manage contractor and supplier SHEQ compliance, including vetting, performance monitoring, documentation checks, and escalation of non-conformances., • Maintain and oversee all calibration, inspection, and maintenance records, ensuring equipment and systems remain audit-ready. Person Specification Criteria - Education, Qualifications & Experience • NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent Level 3 Health & Safety qualification)., • ISO 9001, 14001, or 45001 training/awareness., • Proven experience in a SHEQ, H&S, or Compliance role within engineering, construction, utilities, or a similar technical environment., • Experience developing, implementing, and maintaining SHEQ systems, policies, and risk assessments, • Experience conducting incident investigations and implementing corrective actions., • Experience delivering toolbox talks, briefings, or training., • Strong background working across multiple sites, depots, or operational environments., • Full UK Driving Licence.
