Job Description Job Title: Field Service Technician Job Description This role supports customers of a global precision CNC machinery manufacturer by ensuring their equipment operates at peak performance. The Field Service Technician delivers advanced on-site and remote technical support, including installation, diagnostics, repair, and maintenance across multiple CNC product lines. The position combines hands-on mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic work with the use of specialized software tools to troubleshoot and optimize machine performance. The technician also mentors junior team members, maintains accurate documentation, and upholds high standards of safety, quality, and professionalism while working at customer sites and remotely. Responsibilities • Provide advanced on-site and remote technical support for CNC machinery across multiple product lines., • Execute machine installations, repairs, inspections, setups, and tests on at least two targeted machine product lines with minimal guidance., • Diagnose and troubleshoot machinery malfunctions at customer sites using mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control system knowledge., • Dismantle defective components, equipment, or parts and install, adjust, and test new or repaired parts to established standards., • Install, configure, and maintain electrical and electronic components such as transformers, wiring, and control systems., • Install and repair hydraulic, coolant, and pneumatic systems associated with CNC machines., • Create machine archives and use specialized software tools to optimize machine performance and support remote diagnostics., • Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other machine components to ensure reliable operation., • Provide remote technical support via phone, email, and teleservice to assist customers and internal teams., • Mentor and coach junior technicians, supporting their technical development and sharing best practices., • Maintain high proficiency across multiple product lines and remain knowledgeable on all assigned equipment and tools., • Return remaining parts with correct paperwork and proper packaging to the company’s office after service calls., • Submit all service documentation, reports, and expense statements weekly and on time., • Provide daily updates to the internal service team regarding job status, issues, and customer needs., • Maintain a neatly organized, clean, and safe work area at customer sites and in the office., • Adhere to all customer-specific and company-specific safety requirements and procedures., • Represent the company with the highest level of professionalism and integrity while working at customer locations and in the office., • At least 5 years of related field service experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment., • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including moving components, assemblies, and industrial machinery., • Strong understanding of electrical systems, including wiring, transformers, and control systems., • Strong understanding of hydraulic systems and their integration with CNC equipment., • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex CNC machinery and automation equipment., • Hands-on experience with CNC machine maintenance and field service work., • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe tools., • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, technical manuals, schematics, and written procedures., • Experience working with control systems and automation-related equipment., • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel domestically and internationally., • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds and meet required physical demands for field service work., • Strong communication skills for interacting with customers, colleagues, and junior technicians., • Associate degree or equivalent technical training in a related field such as industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or electrical technology., • Experience mentoring or supporting junior technicians., • Proficiency with specialized CNC software tools used for diagnostics and machine optimization., • Experience in automation, CNC machine operation, or tool and tooling design., • Experience in maintenance technician roles within manufacturing or industrial environments., • Familiarity with pneumatics, coolant systems, and other auxiliary machine systems., • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on accuracy and safety., • Ability to adapt to different customer environments, industries, and machine configurations. Work Environment The work environment is dynamic and constantly changing, with technicians spending most of their time at customer facilities across a variety of industries, regions, and shop environments. The role involves regular domestic and international travel and frequent work on the shop floor around industrial CNC equipment, automation systems, and related tooling. Technicians use advanced diagnostic software, CNC control systems, and standard office applications to perform their duties and complete documentation. The position requires adherence to all customer and company safety protocols and maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times.
