Summary: The Offset Pressroom Lead is responsible for driving performance, reliability, and consistency across the pressroom, with a primary focus on Komori offset presses. This role leads production scheduling execution, enforces preventative maintenance programs, and monitors key press performance metrics to ensure optimal efficiency and print quality. This position serves as the technical expert for Komori press operations, leads continuous improvement initiatives, and standardizes best practices across all shifts. This role requires strong mechanical knowledge and includes leading, training, and mentoring the press crew while maintaining a safe and organized work environment. This position operates primarily on 1st shift and delivers indirect leadership to 2nd and 3rd shift Press Leads, while providing operational support as a backup press operator to maintain production continuity. Schedule: 1st shift, Monday - Friday, eight or more hours per day, five days per week based on business needs. Primary schedule will be 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM, or similar. Training may occur other times. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Lead and execute daily production scheduling for offset press operations, dynamically adjusting priorities to meet changing production demands and deadlines, • Collaborate cross-functionally with management, production coordination, plating, and post-press finishing teams to optimize workflow and throughput, • Develop, implement, and enforce preventive maintenance (PM) programs for Komori press systems, ensuring adherence to manufacturer standards and maximizing equipment uptime, • Monitor and evaluate maintenance effectiveness, partnering with internal maintenance teams and OEM support to reduce downtime and improve reliability, • Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), including press speeds, waste levels, make-ready times, and color accuracy, to drive operational efficiency, • Identify performance gaps and implement data-driven improvements to enhance overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and consistency across all shifts, • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on waste reduction, process optimization, and increased production efficiency, • Standardize best practices for press setup, operation, and color management to ensure repeatable, high-quality output, • Utilize advanced automation and quality control technologies, including Komori systems (KHS-AI, PDC-SX, KP-C) and Chromachecker color monitoring software, to optimize press performance and color consistency, • Diagnose and resolve complex press issues spanning mechanical, environmental, and print quality factors, implementing both immediate fixes and long-term corrective actions, • Provide technical expertise in color management and press troubleshooting to support high-quality production standards, • Train and mentor press operators on equipment, processes, and best practices, fostering skill development and operational consistency, • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and training materials to support workforce capability and compliance, • Provide leadership and direction to multi-shift teams, including 2nd and 3rd shift press leads and crews, ensuring alignment on performance, quality, and production goals, • Communicate production priorities, operational updates, and performance expectations effectively across all shifts, • Support production operations by operating presses as needed to cover planned or unplanned staffing gaps while maintaining safety and quality standards, • Complete and process all required paperwork, records, documents, etc., • Regularly perform general housekeeping duties in your work area(s), • Adhere to all safety policies and protocols and maintain a safe working environment, • Assist in cultivating an interdependent safety culture by reporting workplace hazards, related injuries, illnesses and or/near misses to management immediately, • Attend all department/company meetings, • Wear all assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCES: • Ten (10)+ years offset press experience (Komori presses a plus), • Five (5) to seven (7) years of active Leadership experience in print production, • Strong knowledge of press systems and color control, • Experience with PM programs and performance tracking, preferred, • Experience with press reporting and color management tools, preferred, • Strong knowledge of G7 and Delta-E color compliance, preferred, • Leadership & Team Development: Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and influence multi-shift pressroom teams, including indirect leadership of 2nd and 3rd shift personnel, through coaching, training, and performance alignment, • Production Planning & Time Management: Strong ability to manage complex production schedules, prioritize competing demands, and ensure on-time delivery while maintaining quality and efficiency standards, • Technical Press Expertise: Advanced knowledge of offset press operations, including Komori press systems, with a deep understanding of press mechanics, setup, and print production processes, • Preventive Maintenance & Equipment Reliability: Ability to develop, implement, and sustain preventive maintenance programs, ensuring optimal equipment performance and reduced downtime through coordination with internal teams and OEM vendor, • Leadership & Team Development: Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and influence multi-shift pressroom teams, including indirect leadership of 2nd and 3rd shift personnel, through coaching, training, and performance alignment, • Production Planning & Time Management: Strong ability to manage complex production schedules, prioritize competing demands, and ensure on-time delivery while maintaining quality and efficiency standards, • Technical Press Expertise: Advanced knowledge of offset press operations, including Komori press systems, with a deep understanding of equipment performance and reduced downtime through coordination with internal teams and OEM vendor, • Performance Analysis & Continuous Improvement: Proficiency in tracking and analyzing KPIs (e.g., waste, speed, make-ready, color accuracy) to identify inefficiencies and implement data-driven process improvements, • Problem-Solving & Troubleshooting: Strong diagnostic skills to identify and resolve mechanical, environmental, and print quality issues, with the ability to implement both immediate corrective actions and long-term solutions, • Color Management & Quality Control: In-depth understanding of color theory, print quality standards, and consistency metrics, including use of tools such as Chromachecker color monitoring software to maintain color accuracy and compliance, • Process Standardization & Documentation: Ability to develop, document, and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and best practices to ensure consistency and operational excellence, • Communication & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across departments and work with external vendors such as Heidelberg and Komori Corporation, • Adaptability & Operational Flexibility: Ability to adjust to changing production priorities, staffing needs, and new technologies, including stepping into a press operator role when required, • Attention to Detail: High level of precision in monitoring print quality, identifying defects, and ensuring adherence to specifications and customer requirements, • Safety Awareness & Compliance: Strong commitment to workplace safety, including adherence to safety policies, proper use of PPE, and proactive identification and reporting of hazards, •
