Job DescriptionJob Title: Analytical Chemist Job Description This role focuses on performing release and in-process testing of raw materials, intermediates, and active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) products within a quality-driven laboratory environment. The Analytical Chemist conducts wet and analytical chemistry, operates a wide range of instrumentation, and evaluates data to determine whether materials meet specifications for release. The position offers the opportunity to work with diverse analytical equipment, contribute to analytical and method development, and support ongoing improvements in laboratory operations as the facility expands its API manufacturing capabilities. Responsibilities • Perform release and in-process testing for raw materials, intermediates, and finished API products in accordance with established procedures, specifications, and test methods., • Conduct wet chemistry and analytical chemistry analyses using instruments such as HPLC, GC, FTIR, UV-Vis, Karl Fischer (KF), and ICP-MS (once installed)., • Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation, including performing routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting to ensure reliable operation., • Interpret chromatography data using data management systems such as Chemstation or Chromeleon, and manage analytical data accurately and efficiently., • Prepare and standardize volumetric solutions to support analytical testing., • Assess whether materials meet established specifications and make release recommendations based on analytical results., • Clearly document all Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) activities accurately and legibly in laboratory records and documentation systems., • Review data calculations for validations and perform critical and complex calculations required for analytical work., • Provide information and documentation responses for customer complaints or returns, supporting investigations with accurate data and clear explanations., • Write and revise procedures, test methods, protocols, reports, and material specifications in alignment with internal and regulatory expectations., • Support a culture of consistent compliance with internal and regulatory procedures through training, guidance, and review of procedures., • Meet testing and documentation deadlines as established by laboratory leadership and production needs., • Perform general laboratory duties as required to maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work area., • Lift and handle materials and equipment up to approximately 25 pounds as part of routine laboratory activities.Essential Skills, • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in a scientific discipline such as Chemistry or Biochemistry., • 2–5 years of experience working as a chemist in an industrial setting., • Proficiency with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gas chromatography (GC)., • Proficiency with laboratory instrumentation, including HPLC, GC, FTIR, UV-Vis, and Karl Fischer (KF)., • Ability to interpret and review analytical and chromatographic data, including use of data management systems such as Chemstation or Chromeleon., • At least 2 years of experience using Excel for data analysis, calculations, and documentation., • Strong understanding of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements and the ability to document all GMP activities accurately and legibly., • Ability to perform and review critical and complex calculations related to analytical testing and validations., • Capability to assess whether materials meet specifications for release based on analytical results., • Ability to write clear and concise procedures, test methods, protocols, reports, and material specifications., • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting and routine maintenance on laboratory instrumentation., • Capability to lift and handle up to 25 pounds in a laboratory environment., • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced laboratory setting.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience working in an API, flavors and fragrances (F&F), or specialty chemical environment., • Experience with ICP-MS or strong interest in learning to operate newly installed analytical technologies., • Familiarity with data management systems such as Chemstation or Chromeleon, with experience considered a plus., • Experience supporting analytical development, method development, or validation activities., • Comfort working independently as the sole chemist or laboratory personnel on a given shift., • Strong communication skills for providing documentation and responses related to customer complaints or returns., • Ability to support training and provide guidance to others to promote consistent compliance with internal and regulatory procedures., • Motivation to grow with a smaller organization, gaining broad exposure to a wide range of analytical equipment and techniques., • Performance-driven mindset, with interest in merit-based annual pay increases.Work Environment The position is based in a quality laboratory within an API, flavors and fragrances, and specialty chemical manufacturing environment. The Analytical Chemist primarily works in the laboratory but will occasionally enter the manufacturing floor to support testing and operations. The laboratory uses a broad range of analytical technologies, including HPLC, GC, FTIR, UV-Vis, Karl Fischer, and a soon-to-be-installed ICP-MS, offering extensive hands-on experience with modern instrumentation. The role is scheduled for 2nd shift, Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Initial training takes place on 1st shift, with the training duration dependent on the individual’s skills and potentially as short as two weeks. After training, the chemist will typically be the only laboratory professional on site during the 2nd shift, providing a high level of autonomy and responsibility. The organization is expanding its facility by adding a new building to increase API manufacturing capacity and enhance laboratory operations, creating opportunities to participate in growth and continuous improvement. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of St Francis, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $31.25/hr.
