Job DescriptionSalary: $50.00 per hour, dependent upon experience. GRAPHIC DESIGNER ABOUT KHAN LAB SCHOOL: In 2012, Sal Khan wrote The One World Schoolhouse that outlines how modern education developed and how Khan Academy came to be. The book outlines a vision for the future of both in-person and online education given the tools we have and the need to participate in the knowledge economy. In 2014, he founded Khan Lab School to test and refine these ideas in an actual school setting. Khan Lab School is a TK-12 independent school on two campuses serving over 290 students in Silicon Valley. The Lower School (TK-5) program is located in Palo Alto, California. The Upper School (6-12) is located in Mountain View, California. ABOUT THE POSITION: The Graphic Designer plays a key role in the marketing and communications team, helping to tell the Khan Lab School story through engaging visuals and strong brand consistency. This part-time role supports the school's need for both print and digital design to advance the schools enrollment and program goals. The Graphic Designer collaborates closely with the leadership team to design materials that capture the creativity and innovation happening across our campuses, from admissions brochures and event signage to digital campaigns and social media graphics within an existing brand. SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Design & Branding • Create high-quality print and digital materials such as admissions brochures, flyers, posters, event signage, event programs, email templates, and social media graphics., • Ensure consistent use of existing KLS branding and visual identity across all materials., • Support the development of marketing campaigns by translating messaging into compelling visual assets., • Maintain and update branded templates for presentations, newsletters, and other communications., • Organize and maintain digital asset management systems for design files, templates, and brand guidelines to ensure team accessibility and consistency. Digital & Admissions Support • Design digital graphics for social media, email campaigns, and the school's official website., • Edit and optimize photography for marketing use, ensuring visuals are clear, cohesive, and brand aligned., • Support HubSpot campaigns with creative assets for emails and landing pages. Print & Production • Prepare and package files for professional printing and coordinate with vendors as needed., • Ensure color accuracy, layout precision, and high-quality production across all printed materials., • Maintain organized archives of design files, templates, and brand assets., • Maintain organized archives and file naming systems for design files, templates, and brand assets. Collaboration & Storytelling • Partner with the marketing and admissions teams to bring school stories to life visually., • Assist with event materials and occasional on-campus support for photo shoots, events, or content capture., • Contribute ideas to strengthen the visual storytelling of the Khan Lab School experience. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, & EXPERIENCE INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: • Strong alignment with Khan Lab School's mission of personalized, mastery-based learning and commitment to educational innovation., • 3+ years of professional graphic design experience., • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator and similar tools, • Strong visual design sense with demonstrated attention to typography, color hierarchy, and layout principles., • Experience designing for both print and digital platforms., • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines., • Proven organizational skills and ability to maintain digital file systems and asset libraries., • Excellent communication skills and collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams., • Adaptability and flexibility to respond to evolving marketing and communications needs. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Previous experience in an educational institution, nonprofit, or mission-driven organization., • Proficiency in HubSpot, Canva, or CMS tools; or demonstrated willingness to quickly learn new platforms., • Photography or videography skills, particularly experience editing photos for marketing use., • Familiarity with the Khan Schools Network, Khan Academy, or Schoolhouse.world., • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or related field., • Experience with brand development or brand consistency initiatives. PHYSICAL WORK REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION: • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds as some organizational duties involve moving desks, chairs, electronics, paperwork and other school supplies and equipment as needed., • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the time., • Capability moving about in an office setting to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc., • Ability to proficiently and frequently operate a computer and keyboard as well as other office equipment such as copy machines, printers, and projectors., • Consistently practice safe working habits while using school supplies, equipment, and electronics as well as the ability to maintain a safe and hazard-free workstation for yourself and others at the school., • Occasionally required to work weekends and/or nights, and be on-call for special events which are sometimes held outside and require the ability and willingness to work in all weather conditions at any time of the year.
