Job Description Soyo Kaze Youchien is seeking a native Japanese-speaking lead teacher for a small Japanese preschool in Herndon, Virginia, serving children ages 2.5 to 5. This is not an assistant role. The selected teacher will serve as the primary instructor and will be responsible for leading the classroom, guiding the daily flow of the program, and helping plan educational content and curriculum. Our preschool is designed to provide children with a warm, structured environment where they can grow through Japanese language, culture, daily routines, songs, stories, outdoor play, seasonal activities, and kindergarten readiness. Hours Childcare / Classroom Hours Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM Teacher Hours Approximately 8:45 AM – 3:30 PM Includes setup before class, lesson and activity preparation, and cleanup / sanitizing after class. Tuesday is designated as a planning day for curriculum development, lesson planning, and related program preparation. School Calendar The program will generally follow the Fairfax County Public Schools calendar for holidays and school closures. Opening is planned for August 24, 2026. Last day of class is June 11, 2027. Curriculum and program preparation are expected to begin at the beginning of August 2026. Responsibilities • Collaborate with the Director on curriculum planning, program execution, and meeting Virginia licensing requirements, • Serve as the lead teacher for the Japanese preschool, • Develop and lead age-appropriate educational content and curriculum for children ages 2.5 to 5, • Plan and teach circle time, songs, read-alouds, crafts, games, and seasonal activities, • Incorporate kindergarten preparatory skills and activities into the program, including early literacy, listening skills, classroom participation, independence, and foundational math and STEM concepts, • Support outdoor play, meals, snacks, and daily routines, • Nurture children’s language, social, emotional, and cognitive development, • Take ownership of the daily classroom flow, structure, and learning environment, • Prepare teaching materials and maintain an organized, engaging classroom environment, • Be responsible for daily cleanup, sanitizing, and classroom organization Qualifications Required • Native Japanese speaker, • Preschool, daycare, or teaching experience, • Able to lead the daily program with responsibility and initiative, • Warm, patient, and dependable Preferred • Stable 2-year commitment, • Curriculum planning experience, • Early childhood credentials Onboarding Requirements The selected teacher will need to complete standard onboarding steps required for a licensed home-based program, including background screening, fingerprinting, a simple state registration process, and CPR / First Aid certification. These are routine steps, and we will guide the selected candidate through the process. Compensation Compensation will depend on enrollment and experience. We already have interest in the program and expect to be close to full capacity. Compensation will start in August as a program initiation and planning stipend. How to Apply Please send your resume.
