Job Description Job Overview Founded in 1991, Dallas International School (DIS) is a secular, independent, co-educational day school for children in grades pre-K2 through twelve, with two campuses in Dallas. The Facilities Assistant (Groundskeeper) will provide services as they relate to facilities and the campus surroundings. Job duties include (but are not limited to): • Conduct regularly scheduled and impromptu inspections of campus to ensure cleanliness and safety., • Works proactively to anticipate and address maintenance issues of the facilities, grounds, and parking lots. Work with contractors and assist them as needed to ensure that emergency and/or preventive work is completed in a satisfactory fashion., • Perform various repairs and maintenance for DIS facilities and responds to calls and issues., • Performs routine cleaning work as needed., • Performs event and meeting setup and clean up by arranging tables, moving/stacking chairs, etc., • Perform emergency clean up., • Serve as groundskeeper by performing landscaping and outdoor maintenance for the grounds., • Handle necessary equipment and supplies for the tasks that need to be performed., • Work on call for all maintenance emergencies night and weekends, resolving any issues before class resumes., • Communicate any emergencies/issues to the facilities manager., • Work closely with the facilities manager to develop strategies and tactical plans to ensure that we provide a safe, healthy, & productive work environment., • Interfaces with company employees in all departments and exhibit a professional/confidential behavior including leadership, having a sense of urgency, independent judgment, working industriously, and help to create a cohesive, productive unity dedicated to the achievement of corporate goals., • Participate in writing/revising maintenance procedures and document all daily, weekly, and monthly activities as needed., • Suggest and implement new ideas for continuous improvement on facilities systems., • Assist in maintenance of HVAC systems, as needed., • Perform routine facility tasks such as replacing lights/ballasts, hanging white boards, moving employees, painting, basic carpentry and minor plumbing., • Minor plumbing repairs - faucets, toilets and sinks, etc., • Minor carpentry repairs - sheetrock, etc., • Minor electrical repairs - change ballasts, light switches, receptacles and bulbs., • Other minor repairs - walls, flooring, paint, and signs, etc., • Assists with carpool duties as needed., • Other duties as assigned. Skills Requirement * Proven technical aptitude - must be mechanically inclined, with a safety-first mentality. * Exceptional analytical and organizational skills. * Able to work independently, use good judgment & initiative, anticipate needs, and make solid recommendations. * Ability to work as a team member and ability to be very flexible, adaptable, and to work under pressure. * Requires good written and verbal communication skills, good arithmetic skills and attention to detail to maintain records and process reports. * Ability to work effectively under pressure, and against strict time constraints. * Ability to use standard powered and non-powered tools. * Must be able to walk, bend, stand and reach for extended periods of time. * Must be comfortable and able to work at heights of 20 feet or more. Required Experience * High School Diploma * Minimum 3-5 years’ experience * Proficiencies in building trades including painting, electrical, mechanical and plumbing and general building repairs including HVAC systems with knowledge of building codes. * Proficiency with PC-based office computers, including intermediate operational proficiency level with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, * Experience in maintaining facility systems typically found in a high technology environment. * Experience in various facility requirements (plumbing, HVAC, electrical, painting, janitorial, and carpentry). * Familiarity with reading and understanding service and lease contracts.
