Job Description Driver Job Title: Passenger Van Driver Part-Time Reports to: Driver Supervisor Position: Up to 20 hours per week. Must be available to work Monday-Friday between the hours of 8am and 6pm. Description A NYS nonprofit organization, TRA provides rides for older adults and adults with disabilities who live in and travel within Westchester & Putnam Counties, NY and southwest Fairfield County, CT. Responsibilities • Drive agency vehicle to specified locations as assigned by the TRA Call Center to pick up and transport groups of passengers for shopping trips and return clients home., • Call all assigned clients the day prior to the trip to confirm rides and coordinate pick up times., • Assist clients in and out of the vehicle and, if needed, to the shopping center entrance., • Ensure passengers and belongings are properly secured before driving., • Provide courteous, professional support to clients during trips., • Follow all company safety protocols and policies., • Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections and update mileage into company web-based system using cell phone., • Ensure that all vehicle inspection tags, license, and insurance cards are current and displayed properly., • Keep the vehicle clean inside and outside, including between trips., • Respond immediately and appropriately to all accidents and emergencies., • Report mechanical needs and repairs, and assist in coordination of vehicle maintenance and repair service, such as oil changes and tire rotations., • Fill vehicle with gas, when needed., • At all times, strive to prevent accidents through safe working practices., • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor toward all riders, volunteers, caregivers, and co-workers., • Attend relevant TRA and outside trainings, including defensive driving classes., • Lifting, pushing, pulling, and assisting clients as needed, including handling shopping bags., • Interest in and compassion for older adults and adults with disabilities., • Great customer service skills and engaging personality., • At least 21 years of age., • Valid driver’s license., • Must have reliable transportation to pick up and return agency vehicles to their designated parking area., • High School diploma or equivalent., • At least 2-years driving experience, with no reported traffic violations for the previous 18 months and no more than 3 points reported within the last 3 years., • Experience reading maps and a good knowledge of Westchester County roads and highway system., • Detail-orientated, required., • Strong oral and written communication, time management, and organizational skills, required., • Willingness to complete PASS Training online from home computer during orientation week prior to beginning driving; at TRA expense., • Ability to push or move a wheelchair of 30-50 pounds, plus passenger., • Ability to sit for long periods of time., • English required; Spanish language skills highly desired. While this position primarily involves driving passenger vans and small buses for group transportation services, all drivers will be cross-trained on our full fleet, including both standard vehicles and vehicles equipped with wheelchair lifts, ramps, and securement systems. This ensures team members can provide coverage when needed and have the opportunity to take on additional shifts. Salary dependent on qualifications and experience.
