Position Summary The Lead Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting and advancing the company’s safety and compliance efforts through driver coaching, training, investigation, inspection, and other safety coordination. This role works closely with Operations, Safety, Maintenance, Driver Onboarding, and drivers to help ensure compliance with company standards and all applicable DOT and FMCSA regulations. The Lead Safety Coordinator serves as a lead-level resource within the Safety function by providing day-to-day guidance, promoting safe work and driving practices, addressing compliance-related concerns, and assisting with the consistent execution of safety programs and procedures. This position plays a key role in reducing risk, improving driver performance, supporting regulatory compliance, and reinforcing a culture of accountability and safety across the organization. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesDriver Safety Coaching and Performance Support • Coach drivers on safety-related issues including Hours of Service (HOS), unsafe driving behaviors, accident prevention, citations, roadside inspection violations, and general regulatory compliance., • Conduct follow-up conversations with drivers regarding safety events, trends, and documented concerns., • Reinforce company expectations related to safe driving, compliance, professionalism, and accountability., • Identify recurring driver performance issues and escalate concerns as appropriate., • Support corrective action efforts through coaching, documentation, retraining, and follow-up., • Other duties as assigned.Regulatory Compliance, • Assist in ensuring compliance with applicable DOT, FMCSA, and company safety requirements as they relate to drivers, equipment operation, and safety practices., • Interpret and communicate regulatory and policy expectations to drivers and internal teams., • Support compliance monitoring efforts related to driver behavior, safety events, inspections, and records., • Maintain awareness of regulatory updates and communicate relevant changes to leadership and affected departments., • Assist with preparation for audits, reviews, and internal compliance initiatives., • Other duties as assigned.Accident, Citation, and Incident Review, • Conduct or assist with accident and incident investigations., • Gather and review statements, photographs, reports, inspection documents, video, and other relevant information., • Determine facts, identify root causes, and recommend appropriate next steps or corrective actions., • Review driver citations, safety violations, and inspection findings and coordinate necessary follow-up., • Maintain accurate documentation related to investigations and outcomes., • Other duties as assigned. Training and Communication, • Conduct driver safety meetings, refresher sessions, and team training on safety and compliance topics., • Participate in driver onboarding by presenting company safety expectations, regulatory requirements, and operational safety practices., • Assist in developing, updating, and delivering training materials, presentations, and safety communications., • Reinforce safety initiatives through ongoing communication with drivers and internal teams., • Support consistent messaging and understanding of company safety standards., • Other duties as assigned.Inspections and Safety Audits, • Perform safety inspections of company property, trucks, trailers, and related operational areas., • Identify potential hazards, non-compliance issues, and unsafe conditions., • Communicate findings and partner with Maintenance, Operations, and leadership to support timely corrective action., • Assist with yard, facility, and equipment safety reviews as needed., • Support internal audit activity and general safety readiness efforts., • Other duties as assigned.Coordination and Lead-Level Support, • Work collaboratively with Operations, Maintenance, Driver Onboarding, and other departments to support safety objectives., • Serve as a lead-level point of contact for routine safety questions, issue resolution, and process support., • Promote consistency in safety practices, communication, and policy application., • Support leadership with implementation and follow-through of safety initiatives and departmental priorities., • Provide day-to-day support and guidance within the Safety team as assigned., • Other duties as assignedAdministrative Responsibilities, • Maintain organized, accurate, and timely records related to coaching, training, inspections, investigations, and other safety activities., • Prepare reports, summaries, and documentation for leadership review as needed., • Track trends related to accidents, citations, HOS issues, unsafe driving, and other safety-related concerns., • Assist with special projects, policy implementation, and other departmental responsibilities as assigned., • Work is performed in both office and operational environments, including the yard, shop, and driver-facing settings., • Regular walking, standing, and movement throughout company property may be required., • Ability to inspect trucks, trailers, and operational areas as part of routine responsibilities., • Consistently support and enforce company safety standards., • Deliver timely and effective coaching related to driver safety and compliance., • Complete thorough and accurate investigations, inspections, and documentation., • Communicate effectively with drivers and internal departments., • Contribute to reduced risk exposure and improved safety performance across the organization.
