SUMMARY As a Senior Designer, Workplace Environments, you will lead the conceptual design and space planning for commercial furniture projects, shaping environments that inspire productivity, collaboration, and well-being. You will work closely with clients, A&D partners, and HB Account Managers to understand workplace goals and translate them into compelling design solutions. Using the MillerKnoll family of brands, you will develop creative layouts, furniture concepts, and CMF packages that harmonize with architectural and interior elements. Once the design vision is approved, you will collaborate with designers who carry the project through detailed specification and documentation. ESSENTIAL DUTIES • Lead the creative design phase of commercial furniture projects, from concept through client approval, • Develop space plans and design narratives that reflect client culture, brand, and workplace strategy, • Conduct design discovery sessions with clients and Account Managers to understand goals and preferences, • Curate furniture selections and palettes that align with the overall design vision, • Create compelling visual presentations using CET, SketchUp, Enscape or similar tools, • Select colors, materials, finish (CMF) schemes for projects that are approved for applications and keep in mind sustainability and performance, • Present design concepts and finishes to clients in person and virtually, articulating design intent and rationale, • Select products based on proper application then generate furniture layouts, typicals and budget estimates, • Follow building, fire & ADA codes as they relate to furniture, • Collaborate with Designers to transition approved concepts into detailed specifications and installation documents, • Stay current with design trends, workplace strategy, and MillerKnoll product innovations, • Stay current with vendor pricing, product launches and updates as well as discontinued and restricted items from MillerKnoll and other key furniture vendors, • Mentor others to navigate large/complex projects until adequate skills are gained for them to work independently, • Complete Key Performance Indicators and participate in a yearly performance review, • Fulfill MillerKnoll Dealer Certification requirements as assigned, • Participate in vendor presentations and optional DEI activities and IIDA events, • Attend design meetings, design training events and sales/project management meetings as needed, • Attend 1-on-1 sessions with Design Leaders and bring questions, career development, or HR concerns to them, • Able to curate creative solutions from an expansive product portfolio: furniture systems, ancillary, accessories, • Proficient in design thinking, storytelling, and visualization tools to communicate design intent, • Familiarity with building codes and ADA as they relate to conceptual design and space planning, • High level of graphic presentation skills and ability to create compelling visual narratives, • Strong communicator with ability to present design concepts in internal and external meetings, • At least 5 years professional interior design experience and a BFA, BA or BS in interior design, architecture and planning from an accredited college or equivalent combination of education and industry experience; including a proven track record of leading projects, • Commercial Furniture Dealership experience preferred, • NCIDQ, WELL, and/or LEED certifications valued, • Demonstrated skill using 2D/3D software, proficient in CET Designer, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Suite Our offices demonstrate the power of great design. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing job duties, must regularly speak with others and listen. Frequently required to sit. Use hands, for example on a computer keyboard. Occasionally required to stand. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Must be able to have specific vision capabilities such as close vision, color vision, perception, and ability to adjust focus. Some travel for project work or training is required. Some site visits for inventory and field measures are required.
