Job DescriptionJob Title: Welder and FabricatorJob Description This role focuses on welding and fabricating large steel tanks using flux core dual shield processes and blueprints. You will perform structural steel welding in multiple positions, complete a standardized weld test on plate material, and contribute to high-quality fabrication work in a busy steel yard environment. Responsibilities • Weld large steel tanks ranging from approximately 1/4 inch thickness using flux core dual shield welding processes., • Interpret and work from blueprints to perform accurate structural steel fabrication and assembly., • Perform flux core dual shield welding using primarily .045 wire, with occasional use of 1/16 inch wire as required., • Execute welds in 2G horizontal, 3G vertical, and 4G overhead positions on structural steel components., • Complete the weld test, including open root welding with a back grind on 1/2 inch plate: weld one side, grind the back, flip the plate, and repeat the process on the opposite side., • Apply proper welding techniques to achieve sound welds with consistent penetration and minimal defects., • Use basic hand tools such as adjustable wrenches, pry bars, mallets, tape measures, and chipping hammers to support fabrication and fit-up tasks., • Grind and clean welds as needed to meet quality and safety standards., • Work safely in a covered, open-air steel fabrication yard, following all safety procedures and using appropriate personal protective equipment., • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and maintain high-quality standards.Essential Skills, • At least 3 years of recent flux core welding experience., • Hands-on experience with dual shield flux core welding processes., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints for structural steel fabrication., • Proficiency in welding in 2G horizontal, 3G vertical, and 4G overhead positions., • Capability to pass an open root weld test with back grind on 1/2 inch plate, welding one side, grinding, flipping, and welding the opposite side., • Experience with flux core structural steel welding., • Strong understanding of weld quality, penetration, and defect prevention., • Ability to work with .045 flux core wire and occasionally 1/16 inch wire., • No TIG welding required for this role.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Basic fabrication experience in a structural steel environment., • Comfort working in a covered but open-air steel fabrication yard., • Ability to use and maintain basic tools, including adjustable wrenches, pry bars, 3 lb and 5 lb mallets, tape measures, and chipping hammers., • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds., • Reliability in working early morning shifts and extended hours as needed., • Strong communication and teamwork skills in a production environment.Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a steel fabrication yard that is covered but open to the air, offering protection from overhead elements while maintaining an outdoor-style setting. The position is on first shift, starting at 4:00 AM and working until 2:30 PM, typically on a 4x10 schedule with split shifts: one schedule runs Monday through Thursday and another runs Tuesday through Friday. The facility may at times operate on a 5x10 schedule, providing extended work hours. You will work around heavy steel, welding equipment, grinders, and standard fabrication tools, following established safety practices and wearing appropriate protective gear. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Phoenix, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
